About the Jenova head theory, and the Sephiroth goal theory as they are similar - I think its more to do with the Sephiroth element of the JENOVA cells. In ff7 you defeated Jenova, as far as Im concerned the actual entity that was jenova is gone, all that remains is what merged with sephiroth to become the one winged angel at the end of the game, and the cells that remain in everyone who was infused with mako (ie lifestream) and jenova cells, or in the case of the children, those who inherited those cells. Therefor it is Sephiroth who is in those cells not Jenova, this is where Kadaj and his mates are misled, they believe it is JENOVA who is speaking to them in their heads (Just as cloud heard through out the first game), Kadaj even says just before he fights cloud towards the end "Im just a puppet, just like the old you!" - But it is not Jenova at all speaking to him - it is in fact sephiroth who is calling the shots to Kadaj and using him to trigger his resserection so he can forfil his plan of becoming a god.

Sephiroths goal has changed yes, by this time realised he is not an Ancient, Jenova is a parasite that came to the planet via a meteor millions of years ago, hence the Northern Crater in the game and film, but he still embraces his exsistance as a form of great power and wishes to continue his mothers legacy, IE by crashing the planet into another to spread the virus that was Jenova, but is now Sephiroth. His goal has progressed because he now realises that theis planet is not rightfully his in any respect, and to dominate it would be denying Jenova, and thus his, true destiny, which is to colonise other worlds and ulitmatly rule the Universe, a much bigger fish then simply one planet

Kadaj looks into a half empty box and sees a blob of cells, - Thats his precoius mother I think he cries cause he believes that he had been either tricked by his mother (the voice in his head, who of course is actually sephiroth) or he was simply dissapointed that his mother ultimatly was just a blob, true it had been split open by rufus's bullet but much of the blob still remains, when cloud slices it in two, Sephiroth commands Kadaj to absorb the cells, A huge does of Sephiroth cells into a sephiroth clone triggers the reunion and thus Sephiroth returns. Kadaj was like cloud, a clone created to mimic sephiroth and thus the perfect "larva" as vincent calls him for the reunion
