FFVI is what made FF is so popular, not FFVII.
I have to agree with her, FFVII was so hyped up for what seem's like absolutely nothing, FFVIII offer's everything what FFVII does, a better story, better gameplay and better character's. Ok, everything except the villain, FFVIII's villain sucked.
But FFVII fail's in many department's:

1) Extremely rubbish pre-rendered background's and blocky character model's.
2) Rubbish material system, making no character's unique featuring no set job's or physical strength, i could pick Cloud, Tifa and Aerith over Cloud, Cid and Barret and there would be no difference. The only thing which made the character's even remotely different was the equipment system; which sucked to be honest.
3) People complain about FFVIII's and FFIX's character's being strange or boring when FFVII's were a lot worse, many character's featured no background story and many character's joined out of the blue or for no reason.
4) Aerith's death was only to make up for the game's serious lack of character background and emotional plot. I really did actually laugh when Aerith died.
5) I hate the idea of Sephiroth being the best villain, he had no personality and you only saw him like 4 time's throughout the whole game which was stupid of Square IMO, he also wasn't the most badass, anyone could have stole his sword from him and become a instant skilled warrior, because frankly the only reason Sephiroth was as strong as he was is because of his overpowered sword. He was actually weak until he became a God which again; anyone could do.
