Such is a theory.
While you sleep, your brain cleans itself up, so to speak. What one sees when they dream are parts of this work, and woould apperently have no important meaning whatsoever in one's everyday life.

However, dream intepretations may very well be false, I personally do not believe they mean anything, nor do I think they are part of prophecies or messages.
But humans have adapted their everyday thoughts and woes to the dreams they see, creating a link, therefore thinking such. A way to explain what, otherwise is inexplicable.

And as well, it would seem that through studies, many people will dream about a certain thing, and they would all claim it to represent the same thing.
So I think over the centuries, we have created our own interpretations, to the point that we believe them, weather they are true or not.
It goes a bit about the lines that in spirituality, humans might have created God.

Dreaming about about desires or obbsesion, however, seems a different matter, and I have no real thought on that, other then that I know it is quite a common thing. But is it healthy? If one's brain does indeed ''re-programs'' itself in slumber, it must be a hinder...

I once heard as well, that there is a nerve from the stomach connected to the brain, and so, digesting while sleeping causes ''nightmares''. It somehow messes up the brain while sleeping, which is why, other then several health reasons, it is discouraged to eat before going to sleep.
But why nightmares? Why such pictures? Does the brain work in such a way to warn the person not to do this? It gives you nightmares, so that you will no longer do it? Kind of like how pain gets one to take their hand off the stove.
Well, either way, one of the things we know for sure of dreaming is that the subconscious is a great part of it, and this a part of ourself, ironic as is, that we know little of.

A bit bogus, but this is the closest thing that to me, makes rational sense about dreaming.
