[Miss Lockheart]

I've been in a real musical kind of mood lately so I thought it'd be nice to have a series of discussions on some of our favourite musics, Final Fantasy and beyond. Couldn't think of a really quirky name, so I'm going with the working title "ML's Music Library" for now. Suggestions are welcome as always *_*

To start with, I decided to choose an FF song I recently discovered (I always hear things years after they have already been discussed ¬_¬) based on Aerith's Theme- Pure Heart performed by Rikki. This is probably quite old, but I've just heard it and fallen in love with it! Here it is-

First thing I noticed about the song was the instrumentation- usually I'm quite averse to folk musics, but this struck me as being really pleasant because it's folk. It has this lilting, light-hearted atmosphere to it. Must mention the quirky little changes in metre (timing) at the beginning and end, they confused me at first but I appreciate them, adds a little originality to the arrangement. I love Rikki's voice anyway, but she sings especially well on this song, none of the shrillness of some of her other tracks that I've heard, it's soothing on the ears.

I am confused. These lyrics were never in the original game... so where did they come from? Did Uematsu approve these lyrics... or is this just a sort of fan creation?

The song is pretty good, Aerith's theme is one of my favorite songs from the game, whenever I hear it I instantly think of certain parts of the VII storyline. And it is one of the most prominent songs from the original game which have been present in every spin-off and sequal of the saga. So, it's kind of a VII necessity isn't it? :P

The celtic version seems to work pretty well, and although I've never been a the biggest fan of Japanese singing (it all sounds rather "shrilly" to me as you mention ML haha) this one sounds pretty nice.

Rather interesting, I had no idea it was on the single of Suketi Da Ne, so Uematsu San must have written it. I tried to find it on the various discographies on fansites but no avail, they are always really generalized (FFI, FFII etc). But I like to think he did it if it appeared on that single. I've heard the other song on it though, The Moon, that one's a bit shrill and cringe-worthy, a shame really-

This is kind of a funny little story... apparantly a Korean singer named Ivy did a music video for one of her songs that was almost an exact copy of the Tifa/Lars fight from Advent Children:

It's kinda funny, but guess what... Square Enix didn't think so. In fact, they sued the chick... and WON. The singer's recording company was fined over $10,000 and the video director was also fined an addiditional $6,000. Haha, oh well, what's done is done, and now we can all make fun of it.

Pfft, yeah right... ooooooooooh, I'm sure all the big Squenix bigwigs are all rolling around in their $16,000 they got from it. Like it was really worth it. They are always threatening people who use their stuff, they are so protective over their stories. I have heard of countless stories of websites being shut-down, or the publication of books being halted becasue they did not want their stuff being used. *shrugs* Oh well, I suppose I cannot complain too much, it is not like there is a lack of FF stuff out there really. XD

If not for the violin at the start, and the the voice, the song would have been quite pleasant. An instrumental of this may turn out to be well worth listening to (with instruments, as opposed to the "instrumental" MIDI version in the game).

As for the music video, this woul've ll been avoided if she'd gotten permission from one of the artists, or someone in legal (depending on how the legal matters are set up) to list it as an homage. Thwey'd probably have demanded an exhorbitant percentage, but it would've been better than beiing sued.
