Didn't people play the game? Sin isn't a villain. It's a gaint armor created by Yu Yevon who was said specifically by the Fayth to be neither good nor evil. Not conscious of what "it" is actually doing. So, Sin doesn't count.
I agree with your points.

Actually, no.
You must forgive me, but I simply could not get within the game. At all.
Since I never did complete it, I never knew this about Sin.

Ummm...its obviously Kefka from FFIII...he is the only FF villian to auctally take over/destroy the world...and he destroyed a whole town with poison just to prove a point...

And Yevon (NOT Sin, Sin's a pawn, not a villain) created the church that took over Spira (politically as well as theologically) and destroyed many, many towns as an example of what happens when he's disobeyed and people use technology.
