Kind of crappy...
To think that the saving throw (Ho ho, no pun intended) for Square was this game, I mean look at it, in essence it's a really crappy story, and graphics, and yet....I love it so...
What do you think?

It was unique at the time, I think that's why it has garnered so much popularity.

It was popular back then, But time has passed and moved on, So have the needs of the fans, That is why some pepole see it as obsolete.

Well technology has advanced so much since the 80's, I'm not saying pepole don't still love it, I'm saying that most people still want more.

of course they still want more to be honest i want virtual reality so its so emmersive its like the real world but apparently the tecnolgy is not there apparently

Graphic powers have been upgraded
also, the maximum memory for the games had gome up since catridges. Even the memory on the CDs form ps1-2 has changed, let alone the consoles themselves.
I mean, the difference between the N64 and the SNES was massive
