Basically, Final Fantasy IIj and Final Fantasy IIIj never wound up in North America prior to Final Fantasy IV's release. So rather than confuse North American Final Fantasy fans (whom most of which didn't know about the missing FFs at the time) Square (or Nintendo...) decided to market Final Fantasy IV as Final Fantasy II...so that North American gamers would connect it with the original Final Fantasy 1 for NES.

So they thought ^^;; But it is funny to see how many Americans did get confused over it I know 6 of my friends asked me, "Why did they jump games? All I see is Final Fantasy 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2..." Then I said "that is cause they want to confuse us very hard..."

Yeah, it does still get a little confusing. I just refer to the games by their proper number, to prevent confusion.

But they should've labelled them correctly here anyhow. I mean, they "jumped" FFIV and FFVI here since it was known as II and III, so wouldn't they figure it'd become confusing in the end anyhow?
