FFXII Demo, Your Thoughts?
I recently managed to get ahold of a copy of Dragon Quest VIII to rent, specifically to check out the FFXII demo. It really only consisted of the promo and then missions that seemed to just show off the battle system. I only played through a little of them as they were a little boring but the one thing I noticed that was REALLY different from past FF was the fact that there were no random battles. You could see the monsters as you ran around a level. Also, when you entered into battle you actually battle on the same screen you explore on. What I mean is you don't enter a "battle mode," like the previous FF where you're standing there and you choose your moves and such. You still have to choose your moves and it uses the ATB, but you're still able to run around on screen while you do it.
My question is, what are your thoughts on this battle system? I, frankly, was a little put off by it. It was hard for me to get used to still having to choose commands and wait for them to be acted out, but still able to control my character. I kept pressing the action button to attack like I would in, say, Kingdom Hearts. It was hard for me to get used to. One thing I really didn't like is, if you're going to include the ability to move your characters mid battle, why not give them YOU the ability to dodge attacks rather than making it statistically based? It was annoying, because I would see the monsters begin the attack motions, so my ass would run away, and even though they slashed at me with an axe and I was about 15 feet away it still hit me. I thought that was kind of pointless.
Anyway, anyone elses thoughts on the matter would be welcome.

In other words... you didnt like the battle system because it was too complicated for you, am I right?
That battle system sounds great to me, ive already read all, this, I could tell you even more about it, but I wont.
Why should you be able to dodge?
Moving around in battle has advantages, like some attacks directed at all party members wont hit all of them, and back attacks.
If you could dodge attacks, you would do so none stop and use long range attacks to pick off the enemy, thats pointless, remember, its an FF game, not a game that you can master and dodge and block everything that comes at you.

No, I said I wasn't used to it, not that it was too complicated. I guess being able to run around made things get a little hectic for someone who didn't expect it. The ability to reposition is cool though. Does it effect the amount of damage received do you know? Like if I were to hit a monster up close versus far away with the same attack, does one do more damage than the other?

I'd guess that if you hit them from close, it will hurt them more.
But I'd guess it would be the same for the opposition too.

I think the only reason you're put off by it is because you're thinking about it in relation to all the other FF games. After all it is a separate game, it doesn't follow on from anything, so things are going to change. It's a totally new game, why should it be the same as all the others? Progression guys, progression!!!!!

I agree, FF has to change as time goes by, otherwise people would get bored of it.
FF12, will be very unique to the other FF game systems, I'd bet some of you felt the same about other FF games, you proberably played them a little, and then was unsure because it was alot different to the last FF.
FF 12 proberably has the biggest changes so far, but so what, after all the people saying that FF was going downhill after FF10-2 and FF11, Square-Enix had to do something didnt they.
I bet FF 12 will be great, ive always said, you have to play an FF game for a few days before you can rate it, you just have to spend time to adapt to the changes.

If anyone wants to find out more, google "final fantasy 12 info", and look through the sites, the one I looked on was on the first page I think.

I didnt like it, The battle system has changed much and seems difficult to control, the trailer doesn't even have a plotline, poor final fantasy, what has happend to you?
