Well, I agree with the banning of smoking and stuff, HOWEVER, this £50 fine on the spot is bullshit, they want it both ways! The revenue from the sales, andn then the fines paid for smoking, if theyre serious about it theyd ban it altogether, but oh no, think of the monetary loss!
Marijuana fucking up your mind is bollocks, its legal in Holland, and it works

ok then vivi, why is it banned then? if it doesnt screw up your head why ban it? I mean there has to be a reason why a free speach driven western liberal government bans somthing when substances like Absynth are availible?

Marijuana hurts the user, smoking hurts the user AND the people around, for gods sake the only reason they DONT ban smoking is because itd CRIPPLE the economy, Marijuana is legal in Holland, do you see people dropping dead and going nuts all over the place? If it did then Im sure their government would ban it immediatly

unfortunaltley vivis right they cant ban it cause it would cripple the economy but they could at least design a ciggarette thats is less harmful to non smokers even if a side effect is that smolers suffer more because why should two people be hurt by one persons choice
i mean i think that if they spent millions coming up with the less smoky ciggarette people would be happier as marijuana all things in moderation and its not so bad except maybey arsenic

Heh.
When you smoke marijuana, it is equal to smoking a pack's worth of cigarretes. And then, if it's worth that much, that means you're spreading that much more second-hand smoke. The joy people find in smoking marijuana comes from breaking established laws, and fitting in with others. For them, it's 'cool' to smoke pot. And it isn't. After all, twenty years from now, noone will care what you did, or what you said, they will only remember the impression you left on them. Do you want that impression to be of a smoker? You could meet 20 years from now, and have an old friend come up to you and say...
"Ah, look! Hey, Bob! Whatever did you do with your smoking habits?"

There is a higher cancer risk from marijuana than tobacco. Head, neck, and lung cancers have been linked to marijuana. THC promotes tumor growth by impairing the body's anti-tumor immune system. Marijuana smoke deposits four times as much tar in the respiratory tract as comparable amounts of tobacco smoke.
Studies show that 5 joints per week are equal to a pack-a-day of cigarettes. Many of the same problems associated with tobacco use are present in marijuana smokers: bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, and others.

Wait, what the shit? How does that make sense?
Methinks you meant "the damage from the second-hand smoke will be that much greater".

In response to the arguments that make a point about where something is or isn't banned:
It is very difficult to take an example on something as sensitive as a complete ban from other countries. Every country in the world is very different. Different people, different taboo, etc. The effect that a ban on smoking in the UK (and I mean, an all out ban) would have would be immense, absolutely immense. But could you say the same thing for.....a ban on ice skating in Africa? No.
Perhaps my suggestion was a bit extreme, but you get the idea. It would be difficult to justify something like this with evidence from what happened in another country, as the results may be very different. Especially considering how different Holland is to the UK anyway.
