A soul to me is the essence of you, the part of you that isnt physical, the personification of your hopes, fears, loves, hates, memories and feelings, to say that it inhibits a mortal shell such as a body is clearly a faith issue, many justify it by claiming that consious thought cannot simply be a chemical reaction with pulses created in a biological organ such as the brain, but its more a gift that inhibits a body that pretty much runs on auto pilot

Personally I think a consiuosness is another form of evolution, its created by the body to forill the needs of survival by processing information such as food resources, hunters etc in a sense that we are animals, as human needs developed so did the mind evolve with it, which lead to thought being a nessacary part of our exsistance, Of course we'll never know the actual thought processes of ancient man and this is all a theory, but it can make you think about the mind as a part of human evolution as opposed to a form of blessing, a physical thing that you can sell to the devil etc.

this is true of course but and i believe religion puts the basis for a soul forward as something else gods gift which seems to me to just be another religious proof of god this is why people do not except the soul as a biological reaction or part

Your belief HS while sensible is a little too complicated i believe all those things you attribute to a soul are just the combination of many thought process to a self preservation system built into mankind a soul is what gives us a sense of right and wrong (yes i know like religion says) however unlike religion i do not believe that this is because your sins are being measured i believe soul is the feeling of conscience e.g stealing wrong giving to poor good this is why people can do diffrent things without feeling bad or good because the soul is a biological part which generates are human inate senses of right and wrong

What annoys me about the whole soul debate is when i hear people say they've made a connection with someone, they've found their 'soul mate'. What is a soul mate? How can say you've made a connection with someone eles soul whenever you can't even see or feel your own??

soul mate is just a generic term for connecting with someone completly, love and all that i think the actual religous concept of a soul has nothing to do with it
