The End - Or a New Beginning?
I was reading an a chapter from my science book last year in school, and I saw a section. It said the universe is expanding, then collapsing in on itself, then starting over again...
So, does this mean that we're repeating a neverending cycle? Are we supposed to find a meaning in this life before the universe destorys itself?
Please tell me your opinion on this. To me, this is very disturbing news...this could prove that our existence is meaningless...

Whoa there Tanto, don't go slitting your wrists just yet.
You're talking about is essentially the theory of Universal Rebirth. That is, we start out with the Big Bang, we grow to X amount, and then we get sucked back in again only to go back to the big bang and start over again. There are 2 ways this theory supposedly works:
A. The universe starts over again in the EXACT same way as before. This would mean that we merely all get born again and live again in the exact same ways.
B. The universe would just continually expand and contract, but all events would be random.
Really, in order for A to be true, the universe would have to collapse in exactly the same manner at which it expanded. Unless of course, the Big Bang Dot somehow reorganizes the data into the same thing every time. No telling.
Either way, this all depends on the Universe Compression/Decompression theory actually being true, and right now with our scientific prowess, we have no way of actually knowing anything. Even if it was all true, there's no reason getting bent out of shape. Live your life to the fullest, that way you can be sure you'll be happy in your many reruns to come. :P

Woah, i wasn't going to kill myself!
I was just looking at the big picture. If you think about this more openly, you would understand my point of view. Life's meaning hasn't, nor will it ever, be exactly understood. But I still live my life to the fullest. But this my point of view on this topic.
Everything that we have done, or will do, will be erased from the records of history if theory A is true. All that we would do would go down the dump. So, all I'm saying is that restarting over again would be a complete waste of all that we did on this planet, or in any future planets.
Also, I'm going to bring some religion into this. I always thought that God performed miracles back in the early years of humankind so they would believe in him. Now, he works in the laws of nature, because people know that it was his work that saved them from a flood or something.
Maybe this is all his plan. This theory of Universe Compression/Decompression is probably how he gets more peopleto live and join his paradise. This is just a theory, of course...

That's kinda what I think. But when you think about it, either way our race will eventually become extinct and everything that we did would seem meaningless. What we have done might have been, but I beleive what we try to do is ultimately justified. From what I heard, the manner in which the universe is expanding signifies that there will not be another Big Bang. It'll probably drift and expand until it becomes unstable or something happens concerning God or something.
So basically don't sweat it, let nature do its thing. I believe life has meaning if you make it.

Why does everyone think that I think life is meaningless?
I'm just saying that, when you look at it closely, most of the things that we have done might be just a repeat. This could be the first, or millionth, universe in the cycle. So, we have no idea of the outside forces around us, and maybe never will....
That's the real reason I started this topic.,..what you think about that idea.

If this theory is true we really have no idea how many times it has: Expanded, Contracted and then finally started Expanding again.
We could have done the same things thousands and thousands of times.

Exactly! Thats what Im trying to say!
Maybe histroy keeps repeating itself, in the next nuiverse, with the same people. Maybe that what some people mean by "past lives". Maybe George Washington has become president 100 times, but in a "different" universe. I always get thi feeling that, when I accomplish or do something, I feel I have already did it, but can't put my finger on it...
So, this is robably not true, but think about it...

It is a pretty scary thought (Theory A, in DragoonKain's post, i mean.). Also that we may have done everything over and over again.
I understand when you mention thinking you've done something before. I feel that sometimes, too. Like Déjà Vu, but you can't recall where you'd done or seen it before.
I often have dreams that i swear I've had before but, when i think about it, i can't actually remember dreaming it ever before. It just seems extremely farmiliar. Maybe that kind of thing could be linked to this too, i dunno.
Maybe we'll never find out. Or maybe, if this is true, someone had already worked this out before the cycle had restarted.

Thats what happens to me! I had this dream last night that I was in a lake, with people I never seen, but they looked familiar...
The plants were from another plant, but yet, they looked like something I saw before. The people, or adlts, told me to find something in a water tunnel, and i found this wierd locket, and that when i woke up....
Maybe dreams are recollections of things that we done in our past lives.

Yes that all too familiar deja vu feeling. It is odd... but what would be the likely hood that the universe repeated itself exactly each time, if it were to go in one of these cycles. I believe if I were to live another life, even under the exact same circumstances with no recollection of my past life, I'd live it differently anyway. And are you referring to an alternate universe, or a repeating universe. I think an alternate would be freakier... another you right now.... doing what you're doing... makes you think...
