AS a non smoker ime always intrested in the whinings of smokers so whats your opinon now that the goverment is introducing antismoking laws and raising the taxes on revenue it really needs

Some people think smoking makes you look cool.
Some start it cus they're depressed and people tell you it makes you feel better.

its all down to a matter of personal choice vs a dominating value of good - in this context -

Smoking is a choice, people make it and its ultimatly theyre bodies and lives they are damaging, some promote the good aspects as actually being better then the bad such as stress releif, weight loss etc, its their choice and nobody has a right in a fre society to tell them otherwise

The paternalistic viewpoint is the opposite case, the government bans drugs for the simple reason the damage people physically and psycologically, simple as that, the choice is overruled by a higher power on the simple grounds that its self destructive. English law has always seem to have take a liberal lassez-faire (term for "leave alone" in politics) style of power, as a capatalist state private property and the such has always been a sanctaty, however this never works. People beat their wives and children in private and do all sorts that need control, so in many cases a very fine line is drawn and smoking falls smack in the middle

The political theorist Mills once wrote that the state has only the right to control personal freedom WHEN YOU HARM OTHERS. thats it, the only criteria, of course its flawed as verbal abuse and such can cause harm, racism and that are modern problems, but many stick to it, Smoking, they say is harming only yourself and not others so by its own liberal nature the state has no buisness in banning it.

Howver thus leads nicly into the debate of passing smoking and public places, some say that it does nothing, some say passive smoking is lethal, and public places should all be non smoking to truly forfill this harm prinicple

I read in the Guardien last week that they were planning to maybe limit the smoking ban to places that only serve food - what a stupid idea, EVERY BAR WILL SIMPLY STOP SERVING FOOD, I mean, do these people even think about these ideas? honestly....

hakuzi senzi sounds like a apathizer i think but yes youre right in all respects however you are certainly right about the bars many of my friends smoke and food or fags they say fags and any moneymaking buissness will follow suite you can already see this in non smoking cafes they get less buissness and genrally have a 3 month buissness before closing down from profit loss at least where i live this is true

They're not JUST hurting themselves. Passive smoking and all that. But, I agree. Idea is stupid.

careful painted like that people might mistake you for the london underground and after a while you would begin to smell of pee trust me the whole london underrground does and i swear the timetables do as well i think they hire people to make it smell that way so less people will use it

It's your choice to smoke you're death-sticks, but if I continue to get the damned second hand smoke I'm gonna raise some shit. Keep it to yourself and I don't care. Thats my opinion on smoking in society.
