Suicide and Euthanasia

Here's another interesting topic. Should people be allowed to kill themselves if they so wish? Give reasons for your answers.

Also, should euthanasia be legalised? If so, under what circumstances? If not, why not?

Please provide a coherent argument, as it's a serious topic.

yes, I personally think euthanasia should be legalised. I think that everyone should have the right to decide when they die. At the end of the day, we are in fact autonomous beings; meaning, we are not controlled by anyone. If we want to die then it's our own choice and not anyone elses. It’s our life and we can do whatever we want with it.

I’ll share a personal experience. My nana recently died from cancer and when I went to visit her in the hospital, I could tell she was in a lot of pain just by looking at her. She made some crazy facial expressions. And she could hardly talk… she was always jerking around because of the agony. She wanted to die. She couldn’t eat or go to the toilet because she was in so much pain. My grandad even asked the doctor to turn off the machine keeping her alive just to end it all. But we weren’t allowed, having to wait 2 long weeks for her to die. It was horrible, and I hope no-one else has to go through it.

Also, I’m sick of hearing stuff like, ‘God created life, so he is the only one that can take it away’. That’s stupid. Not everyone believes in God. Like my whole family. We don't read the bible or go to church.

I think it would only be acceptable to implement if the person is beyond hope of a recovery. As long as the person wants it, then I think its okay. If the person has decided that life has become too unbearable and they wish to be released from the suffering, how can someone possibly deny a wish like that?

If we can put animals out of their misery, why not the same with humans? I did work experience at a vet, and saw animals get put to sleep all the time. Infact, I hope I die as peacful as those animals did.

Personally, if I were in the position of having the choice of ending my suffering if I was terminally ill or using life-support I would take it. Without a doubt. Just my opinion.

If you speak of suicide with no regards to euthanasia...

Well, is it wrong to kill somebody? To force their life away from them? Yes, I would take it most people would think such a thing.

So, if someone is so despondent and miserable that they wish to to die, it is wrong to force them to live. Let them die if they will.

In many cases of suicidal tendencies, one can only help oneself. One can seek help from others, only if they are so determined to do it. If they will not, what can anyone else do about it?

Sure, it is a fact that seeing past the woe there may be still a path to walk, and anyone who might have went through it could say, ''What if I really killed myself that day?''.

But others should not interfere, because you cannot tell someone what to think, how to be positive and what will be. Not considering the way true suicidal folk may feel.

I know this is not how the world works, but in my opinion, they should be left to their own actions.
No, I am not saying not to help or ignore someone you might know in such a position...of course we should try to help them. But in the end, the decision should be theirs.

Too many things to consider, though..I suppose.

Does this person have a mental disability? Will he or she hurt others by taking their life? (Throwing themselves from a building into traffic, for example.)

You simply cannot ignore such things.

I suppose this is why suicide is discouraged, for in the true scheme of things, not many people care about anyone.

Suicide is an ill subject because people do not wish to see it, they do not wish to acknowledge the problems of our society. They do not help because they actually care. They attempt and set things straight for the good of their environment.

I suppose we cannot blame society for this, however. If it is true.

But my point here, mainly, was that since people really cannot care...then it is not for them to say how those who would take their lives should do. Leave them be, if your words given to them are false.

Looking at it, it is indeed a rather stupid opinion, I am sure most people would deny apathy towards assistance, but it is what I believe.

Besides, some people, even if they fail to kill themselves, will not find any happiness or relief for the rest of their lives.

I believe that you should be able to kill yourself for it is your life. You can do what you want to with it. If you can think past the people you will be hurting then go ahead with it. This is coming from a person who's mother was suicidal and has tried to kill herslef many times. If you've had enough of your life, good for you. It's your life, it was given to you and not anyone else. If that's what you think you have to do then go ahead. But if you choose not to then you still have a whole life to live. Before you do this though you should take time to think it over. You might just be depressed at the moment. If you still feel like it after thinking about it for an hour or two then you really want to. It's your life, do as you wish. Just remember, for every action there is a reaction

I'm so sorry for your loss, kairi. And really, everyone has the right to commit suicide if your life is dying or your life is full of unhappiness. Its your life and you could do what you want, but friends and family have to try to show them you could have happiness in your life, live to your fullest of your life. Don't care what god said, he can do one, in my book, he just brings pain and suffering.
