LOL, "spoony bard" is one of the oldest Final Fantasy in-jokes in the series. It was originally seen in FFIV (Tellah yells it at Edward as they fight after the death of Tellah's daughter). It is believed that it was actually a phrase which was sort of lost in translation when brought over from Japan, but fans speculate it's supposed to mean(or was originally supposed to be) "stupid". But it became such an endearing fan-favorite that it has become yet another reoccuring theme in the series.\

1352 HP???

My god I do not remember him having that many HP at that point of the game. O_o

And Miss Lockheart, I highly recommend that you give the older Final Fantasies a try. I am old and biased, so I really love them.

I certainly will if I can! I'm starting to really enjoy Tactics, I didn't realise it was actually a remake of a PS1 game, it's a lot of fun. And after watching those Retrospective films over on GameTrailers, I really want to try those old favourites, particularly IV and VI.

Hehehe now I know the story behind Spoony Bard, I'll certainly remember that when someone starts an argument with me

Final Fantasy IV and VI are definitely some of the choice titles if you wish to experience some ''old school'' Final Fantasy. However, V is a very good game as well, and if you like the job system in Tactics, I am sure you will like this one. It lacks a bit on the story though, most people will say.

You can find Game Boy Advance versions of these games, which all have nice bonuses like bestiaries, updated graphics (Somewhat.) revamped musical scores and reworked translation and such, so you might not find it too alien. So many classic moments...hair loss and cussing...
However, the shoddy translation, especially in Final Fantasy IV is one of the highlights of playing the game, in my opinion. As explained by MidgarFanatic, it gave birth to such classics as you spoony bard, and a nasty insinuation where Tellah apparently slept with his daughter. My god.

So there are my wtf moments for this post.

I cannot believe that you were not aware of the old Final Fantasy Tactics! I was so shocked when I read that. We have some work to do with you, women.

*laughs* I certainly have a lot of catching up to do! Go easy, remember I only played FFVII for the first time last March

I'm looking forward to trying out those games, I know there are certainly PSP versions of I and II, and yeah I might borrow a GBA and get IV and VI. I heard they might get another makeover on the PSP too which would be ideal, since apparently the PSP ports of the first two games are awesome

I saw V on the Retrospective documentaries and it didn't look bad at all, I was quite interested. Though I think I'll be giving Tactics Advance a wide berth (looks overly complicated) and my brother won't let me borrow his DS or his copy of FFIII. Still I've got plenty to think about here!

I think it's a good idea, if plenty of people are interested. I probably wouldn't part with my copies of the games I have (they aren't mine anyway ), but I will certainly keep an eye out at the shops, if I see a game I'll get it and advertise it here, see if anyone wants to do a swap or just take it off my hands. A sticky thread maybe?
