Default Quest-Specific items (spoilers)

Spoiler warning through entire thread. don 't say you weren't warned.

Okay, this is where you go to ask about quests (for any of the FF games), mention little-known quests you've found, or explain quests that are hard to follow, not because they take forever, but because there are a few required things in the quest, all of them difficult.

For example:
The FFXII Zodiac Spear urns not to open:
(1) In Lowtown, the barrel directly in front of Dalan's place.

(2) The treasure urn in the cellars' southeast corner.

(3) The treasure urn in the Confiscatory, after recovering your lost equipment in the Nalbina dungeons.

The spear will be in one of sixteen treasure chests at the eastern point of Vaddu Strand (Phon Coast Region).
Edit: the spear is not in the Pon Coast chest, that chest is the fourth one not to be opened.

Is this correct?

Mostly!

Though actually the chest in the Phon Coast is the fourth one not to touch (I would leave all sixteen just in case), the Zodiac Spear is in a chest in the Necrohol of Nabudis, I think.

If I get this game somehow, I might use this knowledge.

Right. And here, we can find out about quests we might not have known unless we read and planned the entire guides. Even then there are occasionally qiuests the guides purposely leave out.

(PS: it is not just for FFXII, it is for general Final Fantasy. Just so you all know.)

Final Fantasy VII has way too many items to miss. Not specifically in optional quests, although there are many, but as well, there are some very annoying details...equip Aerith with a weapon you have two of, if you do not wish to lose one that you only own one of...

Or some summon materia, which can only be obtained at certain points of the game...does that count?

More along the lines of the giant materia, although if the summon materia have a sidequest and not just a cave or series of battles. But, why equip Aeris with a duplicate item, since you won;t be able to use her weapons again anyway? why not just use the cheapest-resale value staff she has? (yes, i'm being a heartless pragmatist)

That is because I love to collect everything, and I freaked out when I saw that the Princess Guard was no longer in my items.
