One of my big brothers friends borrowed a game from me, can't remember which and he gave me FFX to try, I had never heard of Final Fantasy before but gave it a try and really liked the game, I was roughly half way through when I searched around Final Fantasy stuff on the internet and came across this site. To this day I still haven't completed a Final Fantasy game though, I should really do something about that.

I guess it's one of the few few things I have my ex to thank for. I knew vaguely of FF before then, since I'd watched my big brother play a tiny bit of FFVII when it first came out (he never had much patience for RPGs >.<), but it wasn't until I played FFX that I really got into it.

It was about January time in 2004 and my student loan had just come through. We'd managed to find a small flat to live in, since he got me kicked out of my student lodgings because he kept spending the money I had. I thought he might have gotten the message, but after the first couple of months of the flat were paid for, he took another chunk of the money and went to Gamestation with it- he bought a PS2, the FFX game and the FFX Piggyback guide. At first I was so angry that I just refused to play it (plus I was working at the time anyway, had to get in as many hours as I could), but then in February when I got laid off, I picked up the game and had a go.

And I was completely hooked!!

Playing that game got me through the next few months of hell, in that time I lost another job, gained one, lost another load of student money because of my ex, then he started to turn nasty on me. Also there was my uber-meanness entry, wonder if he ever forgave me for that....

So fast forward to Christmas 2006 (before then I'd still only played FFX, and FFX-2 though I only got halfway through it), which is when I first saw Advent Children, my sister got it on DVD as a present. I was like "whoa, what the hell is this???", I only had a tiny amount of memory of FFVII (Midgar being most of it), but it encouraged me to play FFVII. And once again I was hooked. Jonny loved watching me play it too, and my sibs would crowd round to watch me and my mum play it. I defeated Sephy and beat the game on my birthday in 2007 ^^

After that, 2007 just became my year for FF games. I completed FFIX and FFXII, and got my first go of FFVIII, which I really want to beat by the end of this year along with FFI for the PSP ^^

I was in a local gamestore when I happened upon FFX. When I brought it home I was amazed at the graphics, and thats when I started looking for other FF games.

The first RPG I ever played was Dragon Warrior I for NES. It was an enjoyable enough game, certainly enough to garner some interest in trying another electronic role playing game. The release of the special edition Nintendo Power strategy guide made for good timing, so I tried Final Fantasy I, and absolutely LOVED it.

Most of it was new… I was amazed by the size and complexities of the world and the dungeons, the side-viewed battle system, and the massive inventory. And whereas in Dragon Warrior the enemies suffered from some uniformity, made the player spend far too much time traveling back and forth for key characters and items, and lacked a plot with much incentive to care very deeply (even within the confines of the 8-bit platform), Final Fantasy opened up the possibilities of these weaknesses.

By the time FFII (FFIV) came out for Super NES, I was already hooked, but this game took my interest to a whole new level, and has since teetered on what I am proud to call an obsession. To this date, it is the FF I have played through the most times (I would guess at least twelve play throughs). I loved this game so much, I created my own strategy guide complete with hand-drawn maps of every dungeon, town, and every miniscule piece of the Overworld/Underground/and Moon. I had memorized the levels on which every single magic user gains each spell. And I had even found a transcripted game script online, of which I printed and became my favorite late night reading for several years.

There have been a few FFs I have (personally) not particularly enjoyed as much as I would have liked… but still admire: such as III, X, and XI (and do not even get me started on the Fraggles ). But there have been far more that have been an absolute delight, for me being particularly VI and IX.

RPG video games are exciting to me because being a bit of an introverted video game enthusiast, I have never really gotten into very many multiplayer games. One of the things I like about RPGs was that I was able to play alone. Although I have to admit, it was fun to have my brother use the second Super Nintendo controller to command half of the characters in the party in FFIV. I am grateful that FF came along to fill the necessary void in my past-time interests. Particularly with FFIV, we got a whole new way of looking at video game storylines, with character development and true drama and excitement.

But although I have some sort of attachment to all the FFs, FFIV is my sentimental favorite, and probably always will be. I am loyal to this game series because of the adventure and magic I felt with Final Fantasy IV, even though it was such a long time ago, the second for North American gamers, in a series which is on the eve of releasing it’s XIII’s installment. Even after all this time, it is still the game I come back to again and again, and love it so.

Well... VII is of course a juggernaut... and I like it, a lot. Because it has become the flagship of the series, it is inevitable that this particular game has some interesting things going on. Especially with the introduction of these interesting sequels we've been seeing recently, it has given the fans what they want. More... stuff.

When I first played VII on my brand new shiny PS I was damn impressed, but I didn't think it was perfect. I felt as though there was something missing as I was playing, something that I felt from IV and VI. Still to this day I am not sure what exactly it was. But I would still rank it amongst my fav FFs; def within the top five.

I made a conscious decision to make my screen name and sig FFVII related, mostly because, since it is the FF most people know of (even those who do not always play RPGs) I figured it would be the easiest way to connect with the most people on the forums who wish to discuss the same things I do.

But make no mistake about it, I am a VII junkie too. And look forward to seeing what else it has in store. Just no more shooters please. XD

Well maybe you can just remember a time or place which has significance to you that involved playing these games, even if it wasn't what initially turned you onto the series.

Maybe it was playing with some friends after school? Or long hours in the winter with nothing else to do? Surely you can remember SOMETHING friend.
