Oh by the scythe that Scarmiglionne should have been wielding, this could be complicated.
Well here goes...
Milon/Scarmiglionne from FFIV, both his original and final version. You all know why, I have told the story here before. It was an emotionally pivotal moment in my personal gaming history, due to not understanding how role playing concepts work and Milon making me learn the hard way. Mount Ordeals indeed, ha ha.
I had also became a paladin that day.
Well not the first time, when I vanquished his hooded form, neglected to save and was surprised, half dead and with no curative items left, by his second, more powerful form...but like, the second time. Wait no, Cecil's reflection kicked my ass then, too.
Phantom Train in FFVI. Not a particularly difficult guardian, but first of all that entire "dungeon" is my favourite one in the game, and I thought it was so neat how you fight the actual train itself in the end.
Right, it seems stupid and unrealistic now, but when I was younger I always got such a rush from seeing my characters running ahead of it, fighting for dear life while it scar beamed and ran wheels over you. That, besides it looking awesome, and also I loved the background ha ha.
You can kill that thing with just one Phoenix Down as it is undead, but to this day, when I am playing, I fight it normally just because I wish for the battle to last.
Safer Sephiroth, FFVII.
Right, the most loved bad guy ever has long been an icon in rpg's, but is also hated as being overrated. But I do not care...the whole time through this game you just chase after this puppet, this shadow, you are being fooled by Jenova...but the final battle, with the one winged angel, is the REAL Sephiroth in all his splendor and glory, all angry and pissed.
The music is awesome too, but I remember being so amazed by his attacks and how ominous everything just seemed at that point. A very awesome final guardian, although being stoned as all hell while fighting him might have helped induce said perception, too...
Elmdor, FFT.
Well this battle can be one of the hardest in the game-if you want to learn one spell and get some of the best equipment, and also, a chance at nabbing the Masamune. Elmdor fights with two dancers who cast Ultima, and only Ramza can learn it, by having it cast on him...thing is he usually DIES form it ha ha. And this is the ONLY place you will ever see that spell in.
Elmdor has the Gengi set of armour, helmet and gloves if I recall, plus a Masamune, and you have to steal it all from him in battle.
Which is incredibly effin DIFFICULT because you get like a 5% chance to actually get ANY of this stuff from him, and he is the only one who has all of it...if you mess up then, you never will obtain it. Plus he is a vampire, so when you get close to him he bites you, takes his health back and your character turns into a mindless zombie which is next to non rectifiable, and he just waddles all over the screen, usually attacking your remaining characters. There are ways to decrease zombification, but it almost never works.
So this battle is very important if you want to collect every single thing like I do-you will be doing a whole lot of resetting. I loved the challenge, also, Elmodr I always thought was a very cool character.
(An obvious Sephiroth rippoff, but still.0
