No worries bud, I already said I would bring lots of those in my first post in this thread... our sugar highs will last as long as possible if I can help it.
I do not know if anyone already mentioned this, but I will also bring lots of batteries with solar charges... so we could charge them up during the day outside of the cave and then use them in the cave at night for various small-scale things. This would be the best way to use power, as it would be too much work to be continuously looking for expendable fuels for generators and such.
I will also brings lots of back issues of Time, LIFE, Scientific American and MAD magazine as well as whatever books I can find... both for entertainment, discussion, and (as previously mentioned) to help preserve part of our pop culture history/society.
Umm, we have all been so preoccupied with Twinkies, weapons and samurai armour... has anyone thought to bring water? Or a first aid kit?

. . .fine. . .ok, i'll get serious. . .you know what happens when ppl face desperate situations, we think wild stuff. . .
. . .i'll still go off hunting. . .zombies. . .best way to stay safe is to keep them off. . .
. . .say. . .you can shatter a human's eardrums when using. . .ok, i forgot what it was called, but its a certain. . .sound, or sound frequency. . .doing so kills a person cuz it damages the brain somehow. . .if zombies are reduced to what we might call animals, cuz they have nothing but instint left, shouldnt we be able to kill them using a similar method?. . .their brain is no longer capable of rational thoughts, but it still functions because it must drive the zombie on. . .we destroy the brain, then the zombie is reduced to literally nothing, being just a corpse. . .this will help us fight off the zombies by killing mass amounts of zombies, and might go a long way towards reclaiming the planet. . .i'll do more research, but i think it might be better than bombs and weapons, given that we could run out of ammo quick in a tight situation. . .if zombies were to attack or invade our hideout, it would be easier, in my opinion, for every one to put earplugs on then shoot around and risk killing one of our own. . .plus it might be faster. . .again, i'll do a detail report and post the result later. . .

My brother is a teacher, and he does an excercise with his students where he does a scenario with them in which he tells them they are stuck in the middle of the desert, or a solitary island, or the surface of the moon or something... and he gives them a list of items and they must put them in order of most useful to least useful in order in trying to survive... this thread reminded me of it.
I called him and got the list and thought it might be interesting to see what OUR top priorities would be in such a situation as we seem to find ourselves... wait a minute... what's that? *gasp* AHHH!!! AHHH!!! A ZOMBIE IS BITING MY F**KING ARM... AHHH!!! IT'S GOT ME! HELP!
1. 40 litre tanks of oxygen
2. 25 litres of water
3. a stelar map
4. food concentrate
5. solar power fm receiver
6. 20 meters of nylon rope
7. first aid kit
8. silk parachute
9. portable shaving mirror
10. 750 ml bottle of vodka
11. life raft
12. signal flares
13. .5 calibur pistols
14. one case of dehydrated milk
15. portable heating unit
16. magnetic compass
17. box of matches

Well...SoS does have a point. If we had airplane carriers and millions of uber guns and whatever modern armour is, we would not really need to band together to survive, please do not miss the point?
Just for fun...
The water is essential, as well as the food. Then a portable heating unit, especially in the beginning.
After that, the first aid kit, followed by the pistols, and then the matches. Then follows the receiver and flares for help, after that a map, and the compass.
After this, the rope. We always need rope for something or other.
Then the rest is pretty random, although personally, the vodka would rate high on my list.
Er, did I do this right? And have you truly called your brother for this? XD

The vodka would not be for drinking, it would most likely be better used as a disinfectant or an astringent. And do not underestimate the usefullness for the mirror, it can be used to flash signal overhead planes to get their attention or sending silent messages across long distances. Which also reminds me, some copies of morse code would also be usefull for this.
And yes, I did get this list from my brother. XD

Item list:
Mirror: (not out of vanity, I can break it for a knife, the most essential piece of survival equipment. Ideally it would be a machete or even a penknife)
Water and food : for obvious reasons
Gun: protection is not usually high on a survival list but in this scenario it would be useful.
F.A kit: as well as being useful for healing purposes, it would also probably contain possible a scalpel or other cutting items which as I said before are useful.
other items seem to become equally important after that. I could even use the silk parachute for a water trap with some sticks.

I have never thought about killing all the zombies with frequency waves in order to damage their brains somehow. would that work? A zombie's brain is the only thing which works but, does it work the same way a human brain works?
We might have to capture one and conduct some tests, mwaha.

Testing the zombiesz is essential, as is testing the virus. THe former would allow us to detewrmine more effecient ways to destroy zombies, or even to turn them back if they aren;t solanum zombies, but like 28days later zombies, with some sort of mind-altering viruys rather than physiology-altering. Studying the virus would be necessary, because otherwise we couldn;t trust the animals and vegetables we raise for food. High-powered microscopes, slides, that sort of thing would be useful for that.
I think someone mentioned that no one had thought of water:

I assumed it was some sort of spring, but that was not specified. We would have to find a type of animal that is susceptible to the virus in a way similar to humans, and have it drink a bowl of water taken from the spring. Hopefuly, we could find an undeground source in the caves (hopefuly it is a short system of caves, and not a single cavern, or a labrynth that would need to be sealed). Once we found a spring, we would set up a bunker around it, and every couple of days have the current hunting party switch with the water-guarding team. Anyway, water purifiers would be important, because there could be contaminants aside from the plague.
As for batteries to store the energy collected from the solar cells, I know how to drive at least two types of 18-wheeler with at least moderate success, and I have a reasonable idea of how to attach or detach the trailer (I can improvise). IU already said I could probably borrow a power cell from Hawking north of town, they should have some decent sized cells (and it's borrowing, because if there's anyone left after the zombie apocalypse I'd be glad to return it to them ).
As for the list of items, it really depends on the situation. If it;s in this situation, the water would be most important, FM reciever second most important, the nylon rope and then the paracute 3rd and 4th (you can get rope from the parachute, and rope is invaluable), 5th and sixth would be the first auid kit and vodka interchangeab;y (I assumed the vodka was for an antiseptic solution), the compass, the mirror, the food concentrate (for emergencies), and evertything else is either superfluous, dead weight, or can be improvised using nature or other pobjects. The box of matches would be really useful, but not necessary.

good call... good call...
Iv'e heard of this "mind shattering" frequency. iv'e even heard on one that simply knocks you out. We might find one at a high securitie facility...
There is something...
We should make a list of essentail items and most probable locations.
as for research and testing, we would need atleast one doctor/professor/scientist appropriate to each task at hand.
But one thing that we simply must do is establish a steady communication with other non-zombies so we can gather information and reaources as well as meet up with survivors with various skills that we could use.
That is something to think about.
