Default Valentines Day

You could already guess why did I create this thread, but I'll explain anyway:

1. I wana ask you about your preparations for this holiday. Cause it takes time to find the right present and, especialy, the right words.

2. I'm also interested in your traditions of celebrating it.

3. Emm...You see...I'm going to make a gift for my girlfriend, that is for sure. But I have some good friends that I can not leave without attantion. But I don't realy sure if that woun't be disrespect to my girlfriend. So I'm doubting...

It is a fun and cute holiday, albeit rather superficial should you ask me.

Also, I am guessing it is probably derived from some age old cruel and barbaric practice and was eventually socially transmogrified, or that it stems from some naturally secular cultural activity that was imposed change by nonsensical religious accusations. Too lazy to look it up.

Either way, I believe the trick is to not get something just because this is what we do on the holiday. Find a present because you want to, and while sticking to tradition with flowers and heart shaped boxes of chocolate is always nice and sweet, get something a little more unique to go with it that your girlfriend will enjoy. Something just for her, along the standard present. It does not have to be super expensive either, you can get her a key chain, a stuffed cat (I always loved getting those for some reason.) or something anyway, that will show her that you know what she enjoys, and that you understand her personality.

Just a thought; appreciation for valentine's certainly does not have to abide to purchasing anything.

Hmmm, usually I would use this as a cue to launch into the many reasons why Valentine's Day is a bane of my existence, pity lil' ol' me and all that. Cry cry etc. I've done that in the past, and ranting about it has never actually made things better, instead it just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and gets a lot of "scrooge hag" kind of comments

But this year will be different. Valentine's Day is just so often associated with couples and seems to exploit the poor single people who aren't supposed to join in all the fun. But why not join in the fun, even as a permanent single? Valentine's Day should be about making someone you care about feel loved and happy, and even without a partner I still have people I can show that to, mostly my little Jonny of course. Also, I want to take the time to pay attention to myself- it might sound vain and narcissistic, but I spend so much of my time in scruffy clothes running around after a toddler that it's about time I got myself some attention. Sod couples, I'm going to start a new tradition of loving myself for a change!!!

And I have plenty of things I can do- I can buy myself some flowers, cook myself and Jonny a nice meal, and there's so many spa products that I got at Christmas that are just waiting for me to use them. This year I'm gonna be as cheerful and selfish as I possibly can, it has to beat feeling sorry for myself anyway.

As a plus, February is the month for the Spring Festivals such as Chinese New Year and Imbolc. So hopefully the atmosphere will be quite exciting as winter finally draws to a close

Hmmm, better stop now before I launch into a rendition of Independant Woman *zips mouth*

Meh... The last Valentine's day was okay, but considering it was with my ex, I'd have to say that I don't really plan on participating in Valentines day so... No preparations, nothing... However, I AM looking forward to that one holiday a few weeks after Valentine's where single people eat noodles. ^^ (For got what it was called, though... I remember it's an Asian holiday.)

Oooh the Chinese eat noodles on Chinese New Year, but I don't think that's the same as the one you're thinking of. Sounds Japanese, and very tasty^^

This year will be the Year Of The Rat, which is my Ben Ming Nian, or animal year. It's supposed to be lucky, as long as you eat noodles on the first day of New Year.

xD If I believed in luck, I'd be screwed. I only find pennies tail's-up. :P I was born in a year of the snake, myself... And Yeah, If I remember right, the holiday is either Japanese or Korean. And I think it's called Black Day.

Gosh, though sometimes being born on a seemingly unlucky day is actually a good fortune. My grandad was born on the 13th, and he's had the best luck out of any of us!! Either that, or it's just a big coincidence

Year Of The Snake is not unlucky, none of them are, according to what I know about them. Just different is all. My year was the first in line, and is supposed to be lucky in that way, but Rats are protrayed as shifty sneaky sorts who like to use charm If someone said I was really like that, I would probably shoot myself

That's funny, because in an uncompleted story of mine, there's a race of creatures called Vermyn, which are based on rat, which are typically of a seductive nature. xD
