Today begins the year of the Rat, my Ben Mīng Nián, or animal year-
I don't know if anyone else celebrates it, but we have a big party at my mum's house and a good ol' big Chinese meal. Must....eat.....NOODLES!!!!!!
Nóngĺ xīnnián, also known as Spring Festival, denotes the beginning of the new Lunar Year, on the New Moon each February. Funny, because there are lots of birthdays that seem to have fallen on this date this year ^^

My sister was born year of the rat, too. I'm year of the sheep.
Chinese new year is cool. I always try to celebrate it in some form or another.

They are brief, and I couldn't find any more specific sources, but they should give you the general idea. I have a huge book on the subject so if you want to know more, just ask
It's interesting that there are variations on some of the animals. In some places the Sheep is called Goat, I've heard the Rat called Mouse and most bizarre, the Rabbit known as Cat >.<
Hehehehe where did the One Winged Angel reference come from? I was playing that earlier ^^
