Yeah Japanese people tend to like the Chinese and many aspects of their history. It's a shame the Chinese can't be the same- I was told that Chinese people are very hostile towards the Japanese, even refusing to play Japanese made games. My penpal was like that, he wouldn't touch an FF game, the foo

(Edit: @ Revenant)Hatsuiharu and Kazuma sohma, I was thinking of similar but enrtirely the wrong names. Isn't Wikipedia great? But the Fruits basket books are great resources for the animal portion of the zodiac, if you can;t manipulate or don;t trust the Wikipedia site. (note: all animals are listed in theitr respective books, except either the ox or dragon ois mentioned in the other, and their own volume has no chart).
Metal sheep, because of the 12 year/5year cycle combination I was born in. Just sheep was freaky accurate, but metal sheep doubly so.
Edit: @ NF5: Snake, or, if born before February 6, Dragon

Thanks for your help JET ^^
I believe I'm a wood element rat. I find Chinese elements confusing because in every other elemental tradition they have the element Air, whereas Chinese have Wood and Metal instead. Even in the Vedic tradition (Vatsu, Ayurveda etc) they have the four elements we are used to, plus spirit/ether. I can't relate to the element of Wood, it doesn't describe me very well, but the Air element does in every other astrological tradition I've studied.
In fact my "western" (ie. Greek) astrological chart is scarily accurate, I have a sign and an element for every planet in the solar system

So you mean that there are some clasifications of sheep and other animals, Jet? My birthday is August 10th. Do I have some clasification of snake?

It depends on the specific year of your birth as to which element your animal is. Let me know and I'll try to find out for you.

Hmm, this is just speculation, I don;t really know enough yet to make a definite statement, but it could be that either
1. air is not noticeable (except underwater, where it is nt lacking but replaced with a different element), but wood (as opposed to most plants, which are composed of and similar to water) is differentenough that it is classified as another element, rather than as a subclassification of earth, or
2. air has this whole thing about life, and trees are both living and extremely connected to the air.
The metal I have no guesses for, I always thought of it as purified Earth.
