Need help with home theatre and PS2...:(
I have this new home theatre which works completely fine, but I cannot hook my PS2 to it...nothing happens. I put the yellow video cord into the television so I get an image, but the auxiliary or component plugs in the back of the DVD do not even match the colours of the PS wires which should go there. I have tried every damn combination which I could think of, I messed around in all the channels and am in utter despair, ha ha. this sucks.
Are not PS2's supposed to be compatible with 5.1 surround sound systems? An RCA one. I need help. *cries*

Well I looked around the system configuration of my PS2 but didn't find anything too complicated with the audio set-up... whatever the problem is I don't think it is with the PS2, probably something to do with the configuration of the theatre system you have. So I would look into that above all else. Sometimes you need to make sure the stereo system is on a certain audio channel before the input goes through (but you probably already know this). Hmm...
You mentioned different colours on the plugs... if the stereo/DVD system you are using is new it might be HDD compatible, which have different colour plugs from the usual audio and video Red/White/and Yellow ones that the old standard sound systems have. And the old plugs do not work with HDD sound systems, so perhaps this is the case.
Whatever is wrong it must be something fairly simple. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful. *sigh* Good luck T.

It would appear that the plugs in the back are OUT, while I should be needing IN. I tried with my stereo, but that thing is ancient and does not even have an aux channel...yes, i know the PS is fine, I think that the DVD does not support surround sound coming from something else...ack. But thank you anyways.

I'd like to help, but I'm not sure I understand the situation. THese are what I could take the situation to be, and my proposed solutions.
A. Plugs are HD. I suppose you might be able to get a converter or something to change the PS2 data to HD between the console cord and the DVD jack (the image resolution would stay the same, just the signal format would change), but then again I don;t know much about HD and it could be it's completely incompatible.
B. The plugs are some weird kind of not-actually-RCA, in which case you just need to see if an adapter exists.
C. The only plugs on the DVD player are OUT. It could be that the player does not allow other systems to run data through it, in which case your only hope is that someone steals the player and replaces it with a better one that does have RCA input.
D. There are both IN and OUT plugs on the DVD player, (EDIT: but not enough,) in which case you can just do what I do and spend a ridiculous aount of effort changing which cords are plugged in every time you want to change between playing video games and watching a DVD (or, in your case, listening to the stereo). Or you could just spend $35-$120 on one of those boxes where you plug in multiple RCA cords, and then switch between them when plugging the box into a single RCA ro coaxial cable port.
That's all the suggestions I;ve got, I couldn;t help any more without a more clear idea of the situation.

Yes, this might very well be the case. If you have a VCR, even an old one, which has both IN and OUT ports this might work much better. I had the same problem a while back, and it took me a while to figure out that the system I was using, as JET mentioned, would not let me run the audio through it... only out from it. (I think it was a DVD player as well actually) But then when I used my old VCR I was able to connect my PS2 to my stereo through this and it worked well.

After much surfing and inquiries, C is the option, ha ha do I have all the luck. It only has OUT things. My stereo is so old that all it has are the speaker jacks. What the hell am I to do? I must have a VCR or two somewhere though.
EDIT I found a VCR! The cassette no longer play in it, because the wheels are much too used, however it still turns on and all...quick, what do I do with it?! And also it has IN jacks!
