Out of all the
Halloween movies I have seen, the first one is obviously the best, as it is a classic and has many elements which have been copied so many times since. One scene in particular has always haunted me, when she enters that dark bedroom and sees her friend hanging on the wall. (I think this was from this film... correct me if I'm wrong) The first
Halloween film was actually one of the first horror movies I ever saw. I was not allowed to watch horror movies as a kid, my mom didn't let me, but one night I was sleeping over at my older cousin's house, and we watched it along with
A Nightmare on Elm Street (as well as
The Neverending Story oddly enough

). Although I cannot say I was entertained by it at the time, as I was completely and utterly terrified, it wasn't until much later that I was able to look back on the experience and appreciate it for thrilling me so much. Any movie that can have that much of an impact on you, whether it is positive or not, is a remarkable feat indeed.
Michael Myers is an interesting villain, because he is so effective as a horror icon only because of the elements of the environment. If the movie was shot in scenes during the day, he really would not be very scary at all, at least I don't think so. I would probably laugh at him, especially in that slow way he moves. It is the mask in the dark elements which make him so f**king scary, and the fact that his face is already hidden adds to the mystery of the evil. I do not remember ever seeing his real face, and I guess that is part of the illusion and awe.
I was not too impressed with many of the sequals, but I must admit that I did really like H20. I thought that was a great looking film, even if it does follow the traditional cliches, but since the movie is meant to be a 'tipping-of-the-hat' to the original, this film gets away with it. Jamie Lee Curtis is fine, but Josh Hartnett is my favorite part of that film, aside from Michael of course. I love the part when he slowly lowers himself down from a ceiling beam with one arm. AWESOME!
Wasn't there one of the films that took place in outer space or something. LOL Or was that Jason?
