Which Final Fantasy game has the best music.

but they are also trashing FFVIII and that was the first on I ever played (I liked it)

Yeah, it's always difficult seeing the games you like get bashed. I remember reading the reviews for DoC, they made me cringe (Vincent shall live on forever yesssssssss).

It was interesting seeing some of the older games, esp as MidgarFanatic was discussing them with me. I would like to try those out.

My list is similar, just swap IX for VII. I was gutted when XI came out but I couldn't play it, it looks awesome, though maybe a bit complicated.

believe me: it sucks
I have played it for an hour and almost scratched my eyes out (but I did the same with final fantasy XII when I knew that they had drained the whole final fantasy feeling)

My mum's attempting XII right now and I've started it. I think she's gonna try and convince me to play some more, but I'm not sure because it's too damn complicated. My limited brain can only deal with turn-based combat! (still, I'm gonna try Crisis Core when it comes out)

I think the whole turn based combat really brought the fun that is final fantasy.
and encountering a monster every step, although annoying, it really makes it fun.
in XII you can dodge almost every fight.

I think that's why I always go back to the old games, it's home to my brain. I like to be able to think about my moves, I'm quite a tactician!!

Also I think the story for FFXII is a bit generic, nothing special is happening yet. The other games always had crazy plotlines, and more humour too! I think they wanted to make it more grown up, but they took the fun away from it.

I haven't heard much of it, but what I did hear it just sounds like LOTR, which I wasn't really impressed with either. Again, it seems reall generic, it has no identity. I can remember so many of the cool themes from the older games, Uematsu wins hands down!!!
