Yeah, looks really helpful. Actually, more helpful anyway, I never properly realized that IX was meant to hearken back to the earlier games, that explains a lot.

Never wondered why Vivi and the Automaton Black Mages looked so much like Black Mages in FF 1-3 or why Freya was a Dragoon like kain of FF IV, or why airships were such a huge feature (ala' FF IV), or why everything in IX was so MEDIEVAL FANTASY for that matter? :P

Still, I believe IX would fit in the traditionalist route as well. The only difference I see between the elements of it and the classic FF's is 3D. And I really feel like FF IX being my second FF game merely cemented my endearment for the earlier, pixel-driven games.

As for FF VIII? It endeared my hatred for Squeenix being retards and not trying to break the mold in a few more places, like VIII did, and instead be stubborn and only appeal to otaku creepy fanfic-writing, hentai drawing, yaoi/yuri-obsessed fantards by filling it with pretty men and cutscenes that WOULD make Kojima blush if he hadn't already made Metal Gear Solid 4.

XD I have to say start trying to hunt down I-VI, VI being my favorite ff game. Go for VII, a fan favorite. I didn't like VIII at all... though everyone else does. IX is a gem, kinda takes you back to the the days of the originals. X was what got a lot of people into ff, it's also kinda good in my opinion, but I love the originals and don't care for graphics. X was pretty. Never played XI, it was online and I didn't wanna spend the money. XII I enjoyed a lot. My second favorite, it was great, but for more experienced rpg and FF players. XIII looks like it could be kinda like X, XIV is also going to be online, but no monthly charge and it won't be as annoying as playing on the ps2. I am deffinatly getting XIV.
