every ff story has the potential to go somewhere, but I dont think Square works that way
After seeing ff7 ac we can see that ff7 was technically incomplete as a story, and FF7 AC and dirge of cerebrus are designed to finish the story, not to add more. They are not technically sequals as they continue the story and not start a totally new one. FF8 was finished at the end of the game, whether it was Squares writing skills improving or simple dedication to filling in all the holes, it doesnt need a sequal. FF7 is the only one with a open ending so to speak which ff7 ac closed, every other ff has a similar closed ending (well besides ffx, as ffx-2 frankly ruined it) but the same goes for every ff game inbetween in terms of clouser.
