I was not able to enjoy it...it was much too linear, and riddled with role playing clichés that did not even try. Even with the somewhat original plot which was presented.
And although one had combos to master, the battle system was much too strict in its freedom. And I use that word lightly, mind you...
The whole game bored me, I found no incentive or motivation to enjoy this.
It is rather stupid of me to point out, but as well, I could not whitstand the fact that the characters wore clothing the same color as their innate element. The Dragoons yes, I could have agreed...but the character design (Without their Dragoon armor.) should have been more original..COULD have been at that, considering the Dragoon suits...
It was a challenge, and had superb graphics, although I need not point that out...but I did not like it at all.
Judging on how very many like the game, I cannot understand my disdain for it, for I am usually not..picky when it comes to a role playing game..but this..agh..

Well I see your point there but ths game has so much to offer that differs from other RPGs. Like the fighting system for example, The combo system was great and once you got the stronger addittions it became a challenge to master them. That part alone holds the game up. The story was wonderful, the characters were nicly made with great back stories to all of them, and the enemies were cool. Sure This game is very linear but so are all other turn based RPGs like this.

If you read this and you did like Legend of Dragoon ther is a rp War of the Guardians that sort of follows along with the idea of the crystals but you don't turn into a mystic night. Its real cool and is open to new members just read the first paige to know the rules
as for the game i liked it i didn't play much but my step dad did and beat it and he really liked it, i think it had a great story line

Indeed, I was able to recognize that it is a decent game..the quest is long, the plot is original, and as you say, the combat system does offer some challenge.
I always thought I should give it another try at least, but the...whole feel of it, the atmosphere...it does not fit with me.
But again, I suppose you are correct, most older turn based role playing games do not differ much farther then Dragoon as far as the circumstence of its formula.
Hum...out of topic perhaps, but...does anyone have any information about there ever being a sequel for this? A friend and I made a bet of ten dollars...me betting against a sequel ever appearing before the end of 2006. I heard Sony was never to make one, but who knows...

Well then it would be old and no one will ever make a sequal. The game is to old and wan't that big(like FFVII) so the creators will not make a sequal.

Well, the deal lasts until 2007..so if a sequel does come out after that, no one wins any money.
But I read in Electronic Gaming Monthly that Sony has absolutely no plans to ever make a sequel to this...although this is what SquareEnix said about Final Fantasy VII, and now look upon all the spinoffs..of course, as mentioned already, FFVII is much bigger then Dragoon..

although it is a good game, chances for a sequel are slimmer then 1. it is very old and isn't big enough to catch people's attention
