I had one of the older ones. And, I think one of the newer versions. I thought they were okay, but I couldn't see myself becoming a fan unless they opted to make them like Devil May Cry.

They had sort of attempted this with Lament of Innocence, although it is a far cry from the Devil May Cry concept indeed.

I have stollen this from Kotaku.com:
Castlevania Movie Sees Belmont Armed With "A F**king Sword"
After Dr. Henry Jones, modern pop culture's second-best proponent of the whip has got to be Castlevania's Simon Belmont. And with a Castlevania movie (sort of) coming up, just imagine the kind of stuff he could be doing with said whip! And yet, courtesy of a script review for the upcoming project, it seems the whip's been relegated in favour of a sword. And not just any sword:
"Though I said Vampire Killer is gone from this script, Simon does wield what is described as a chain whip in two instances. However, it is nondescript and in one of the occasions is wielded as an off-hand weapon. So what is Simon armed with throughout the film? A fucking sword."
Oh dear. Nothing like setting off on the wrong foot with fans, is there?
/end of Kotaku.com announcement.
Hmm, I really don't like it when they do this, especially when they make a movie that has a very strong cult following, of course fans are going to notice things like this, and give the creators a hard time about these details. Especially when the weapon is such an important part of the characters identity... could you imagine Indiana Jones without the whip? Umm, nope. Thoughts from any of you Castlevania fans? (You all know who I'm talking to. )

*Grits teeth.*
Who is directing this? (Last I had heard, the project was cancelled.) And how recent are these news? A chain whip sword thing, right, could they deface one of the most famous vampire hunters ever even more? I mean the Vampire Killer has been passed down though the Belmont generation for centuries and is an essential part of the story...
But then, after hearing about this film, I always figured that it would most likely be all messed up, I do not even know how, as much as I love Castlevania, one could make a good film out of it. They certainly have to improvise, but I believe that there are more than enough significant key elements in the game, such as vampires, monsters and...a whip...that they could work around these, and not have to change it so much.
Argh. Are they going to give Dracula a shotgun or something? Or is he even going to be in the film?
Maybe I am judging too fast, but, damnit.

The script for Castlevania at the moment just looks like an assrape. Taking out basically all key elements of the game is not an adaptation. It shouldn't even have the name Castlevania.

I saw mentions of this recently, but I, too thought it had been cancelled. (to me, it seems like a resident Evil movie, but with a vampire instead of the Umbrella Corp. And, referencing a sarcastic comment I read elsewhere, "Even better than a sword, he has a shotgun that shoots whips!"
I was glad when they cancelled the movie, even before I'd played more than the 2nd castlevania.

I was glad as well when hearing this news. I love Castlevania too much to see it defamed this way, and even curiosity is not strong enough to accept whatever film they are going to make, if they are not following the game and only make it our of flash value. Bah.
But alas, it seems the inevitable shall take place, and that in the end, I will go and see it either way. :/
