HARDEST games you'e ever played.
as a dark mirror to the "easiest games" thread here we list those games which were exercises in controller snapping frustration. I feel like an old codger for saying this, but the hardest game I ever played was Ecco the dolphin for the sega megadrive (or sega genesis to you yanks) that game was deceptively evil. Cute looking dolphins and swimming in the ocean sounds easy and fun right? NO. YOU WILL DIE. YOU WILL GET SWARMED BY JELLYFISH. AND BY GOD YOU WILL NOT LIVE TO TELL THE TALE AFTER MEETING A SHARK.
Also worth mentioning: Rayman for the playstation.

Ecco the Dolphin ARGH!!!!!
My hardest game so far is Shadow Of The Colossus. I haven't clocked it yet, but it's definitely driven me to the edge, I've even shed tears over it- not because of the story, but because it's so damn hard. Even on Easy mode. *tears out hair*

Tiberium Wars. Quite possibly the hardest game I have ever played. Nod is so hard to play as and the Scrin aliens? Right, Good luck with killing them. GDI gets shot to pieces too early and Nod obliterates all with a nuclear missile. ARGH!!!!! 14 missiles fired by me to date.

The original metroid. Go ahead and laugh, but at least with other games it gives me a chance to level up, or find some upgrades, but no. I have three choices (possibly inaccurate example): I can fight an opponent who can absorb my only attack, I can go through dozens oif levels of slowly increasing low-level enemies and quickly decreasing healh charges, or I can fight a series of infinitely-replenishing flies whilst balanced over a pit of lava. The only upgrade I have been able to find was the morph ball, and a reasonably bright monkey with two broken thumbs could get that upgrade. I once tried systematically exploring all areas I could reach: took me six hours to determine that I was going to die no matter how often I avoiding enemies instead of fighti9ng them, or vice versa.
SO, that's the hardest game I can think of having played. Imay have played harder games, but this one is my own personal archnemesis.

Good god YES! The original Metroid was indeed very difficult. It drove me mad as well. Eventually I just gave up, and I used my Game Genie to finish it off. I tried revisiting it about a decade later, to see if my more matured gaming skills could do any better... NOPE! lol
A lot of those original games from Nintendo were really difficult. Kid Icarus was another one that was really really tough. Most levels involve you moving up in vertical stages, but once you start moving up you die if you fall below the bottom of the screen where you have already passed. Also you collect money from monsters, in order to buy items from shops in rooms you find along the way, but most often than not, the items are far too expensive to buy, even if you have killed every monster along the way and collected all the money you possibly can. *scratches head* What?

Y's Book III on Super Nintendo. I do not know what that game's problem is, but it is insane. Some sort of side scrolling role playing game where you have no attack range and get demolished by generic slimes. My friend in the past had completed it, and the ONE time I passed the first screen is because I somehow managed to avoid all of the enemies... I do not know how...maybe I just suck.
Also, worth to mention, Persona II Eternal Punishment and Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne. Even if you know what to do and how to properly exploit the enemies, it can be hard. Not just in the sense of difficulty, which is also unforgiving should you not pay attention, but all the preparations and concentration required to survive make it hard.
Also, Rule of Rose, mostly because the combat scheme is quite horrible. I do not want to blame the game on my incompetence, but when your melee weapon is a farking table fork, it gets slightly insane.

Ninja Gaiden Black on the hard difficulties is a candidate. The most difficult game I've ever played would probably be a racer like F1 2001, where keeping your car on the track is about the same as trying to keep a bull still with just your arms.

I thought that was pretty much a cakewalk compared to Grim Fandango (PC).
