Mass Effect
. . .althought i bet there wont ever be any more than may be two other persons in this forum interested in this game, or even better, who have played this game, im making a thread about it. . .
. . .mass effect is just a huge game with a great story and deep plot. . .i wont go over the plot although i will say that the story is set in a futuristic version of our galaxy and the threat comes from an ancient hyper advanced race of sentient machines who come to our galaxy to harvest all life every 50000 years. . .
. . .the scope of the game is amazing, and you really do feel like your exploring other systems in our galaxy. . .also, the game gives you so much control over conversations and other plot elements that you really do feel like your part of the story. . .
. . .i wont say much else, other than the fact that im still not done w/ the game, but if you have played it, go ahead and drop your comments or opinions here. . .

I personally REALLY, I mean REALLY, like this game. But, while the game was intended as an action-RPG, I see it more as a shooter. I love the dialogue system, however, other than technical skills in sidequests, most of your skills mean NOTHING.
Weapon skills basically just meant a smaller, less shaky reticle with said weapon. Honestly, I played the game fine without high skills with almost any weapon.
However, the game is absolutely beautiful, and while people hate the game for it's elevator load screens and 'horrid' Mako jeep controls, I never minded either of those. I anything about the Mako annoyed me, it was that if ONE CENTIMETER of the Mako's tread hit lava, it was game over. And you had better hope and pray to GOD that you saved shortly beforehand or you'd have to start the planet's mission ALL OVER AGAIN.
Three other complaints... Because the game uses Unreal 3's engine, graphics pop-in is hellish in some places, and takes you out of the immersion the game tries to offer. They could have easily made their own engine (y'know, like BioWare NORMALLY does) and had it look just as good with no graphical glitches. Also, while tactical commands with your squad is sweet, your teammates tend to lower and heighten intelligence at a whim. I often used the Mako as a form of mobile cover, and if I commanded my squadmates to move, or moved myself with them SUPPOSEDLY following me, chances are one of them would become intensely dim and walk into the Mako continuously, rather than have the sense to walk around. Lastly, the 'moral choices' presented in the game are rare, and different moral choices often sound EXACTLY THE SAME coming out of your character's mouth, merely illiciting a minor change in response from the NPCs somehow.
I personally own a copy of this game, and am looking forward to the remaining two installments. However, this is much more of a third-person shooter with dialogue and choices than the 'epic Action-RPG' promised from BioWare.

. . i agree w/ you in all senses. . .even if i havent played 40% of the game. . .
. . .the one thing that annoyes me the most is the voice overs. . .at times, when you'll expect the voice to be dramatic due to the occassion (like when your in a hurry), you can detect only the slightist change in the voice. . .plus, there really is no facial expression unless the characters are frowning. . .oh, and i hate the eyes. . .it looks like they are popping out or something. . .really not cool. . .
. . .i didnt mind the mako at all. . .but i do also agree that the game is so totally a shooter. . .i mean, i appreaciate what they tried to do with the job selection, but it still doesnt make an impact on the overall feel of the game. . .if you ask me, if the game played like halo you wouldnt see much of a difference. . .
. . .besides, i like everything esle. . .graphics, setting, story. . .and it does sound big, if not epic. . .

I mostly just hope that the remaining installments fix the problems I had with the first one and come off as more completely what I typically expect from a BioWare game. Lord knows Dragon Age looks like it's set to disappoint me. All I ask of a game company is that they provide what they announce and more, if they announce anything.
When a game is basically presented to you in a nutshell, it may make for an awesome experience, but definitely NOT the best game of the year. That's probably part of the reason I'm looking forward to Fallout 3 so much... Not everything is revealed by Bethesda, and you get the feeling that, reading individual previews that contain content Bethesda never even MENTIONED being in the game, that itall the company says is merely scratching the surface.
When people announce an awesome game, I expect it to be better than the developers let on. Except with Squeenix, where that bar of expectation has been lowered repeatedly with Final Fantasy, and they still fail to hit my mark of character/storyline mediocrity.

. . .yeah i hope they fix some of the worst stuff on the game. . .i mean, its not mayor problem stuff it just stands out cuz the rest of the game is so well done. . .the graphics problem i think its a must fix, specally in facial structure cuz i tell you, im freaked out sometimes by the way their eyes look in the game. . .also, more motion. . .and fix the jobs. . .
. . .i've never played a fallout game, but i think bethesda is a good developer. . .as for square. . .well, its an avarage developer in my book. . .wont really expect much except w/ regard to their main ff titles. . .
. . .so yeah, already looking forward to the next installment. . .
