Drug Discussion.

I myself do not smoke marijuana or any other "Recreational Drug" but I would like a discussion about them. I am in high school, and because of that there are an unbelievable amount of drugs in school. I personaly donot care for them and think they are stupid and pointless. I often ask people why they smoke weed and they say "Because it's fun". Everytime I hear this, I am ashamed for them because it saddens me that so many people need to do a drug in order to have fun. If you need to buy an illegal substance to have fun it makes me think that you are a but pathetic. Many people had fun as children without any use of drugs or alcohol, but once they become a teenager they depend on it and use it to "have fun". Another reason I've heard is "Because It Calms be down". For people in this situation I also findy j it a bit pathetic, if your angry and you need calm down, you are relying on a substance to do it for you. There are many ways one can calm themselves, but to smoke a joint shows me that they have no dependency on themselves and the rely to heavily on it. Does anyone else agree with me? Or contradict me ?

I don't do drugs myself. However, I don't see anything wrong with people that do them, and I don't want to say that I would never do them either. People do things to have fun, and whether you're doing drugs, riding rollercoasters, whatever, it's just about changing your current activities to something that you enjoy. People who do drugs achieve an altered state of consciousness, similar but not the same as the feeling you get when you're put into a drunken stuper.

Is there anything inherantly wrong with enjoying the altered state of consciousness? No, unless you begin to LIVE in that state of consciousness. People who become addicted will invariably pay dearly for this, but for those who meerely enjoy recreational usage, nah. Marijuana in particular has virtually no downside, it's simply a way to have fun. Your argument regarding "well I don't have to be high to have fun" is also lacking. The users who do drugs don't have to be high to be having fun either. But how much fun do you have sitting and watching the ABC news? From what I understand, somebody who is high can have a BLAST watching a news anchor talk. To each their own really. Personally, I don't understand how people can possibly bungie jump to have fun... It's really the same sort of difference.

Thanks for the opinion Kain, it means alot. Although I wasn't referring to people who do it once every two days. This is very personal to me because a certain family member is smoking weed and drinking every day in order to relax himself from arguments with his parents. Although I will admit, I wouldn't really care if I did try a joint, I still don't really know what I should do. Should I leave him be or should I try to get him off it. Im close to him, he's like the closest thing I've had to a brother - but I don't want to annoy him and pester him. I don't know what to do...

More than anything you should just offer your support. He doesn't NEED the substances to feel better, and becoming dependant upon them for relaxation isn't a good idea.

With that said though, it's probably a mistake better left to be made by him. Do your best to make sure that he knows he doesn't need them, but don't become preachy, that would be my best advice. Be there for him, but do not judge or look down upon him for turning to something else to help him. Not all of us are strong enough to deal with our emotions by ourselves. Just my 2c.

DragoonKain your first post sounded very pro-drugs whether you meant it or not. And you guys still haven't mentioned the ever so obvious fact that drugs will mess you up seriously and/or kill you. I mean Jesus a form of fun? That's like giving a masichist a f*cking gun. Fun... bahhh. The only thing they are doing is either following their peers or trying to escape reality so they don't have to worry. In that state of consciousness, not much matters. But hell, when you die of cancer or ruin the lives of the ones you love nothing is gonna matter anyways, right? I don't care if people do drugs or not, it's their life to skrew over and their decision. I don't care if they are as nice as Jesus Christ, I scorn them for that andwill never hang out with that sort. It's just taking the easy way out of life, and it disgusts me. Addicts who didn't know better, I can sympathize for a little. But they should still do something about it. Get off drugs get on with it and get a life. And I know it isn't always that easy, obviously. But, measures can be done to improve their condition.

Now I have the feeling that someone will quote me to disagree with certain points. I say, bring it on lol.

Cigarettes and alcohol are far more dangerous than weed. Weed mellows you out, alcohol causes depression and violent tendancies, cigarettes cause cancer and high blood pressure.
Yeah, I'm decided on which one I'D prefer to be legal.
I'm not pro-drugs. I am, however, pro-choice. As long as what you're doing isnt putting others in danger, it's fine. Simle as, you may be doing yourself damage but no-one else is affected. My opinion ends here.

And mine starts here again lol. It was more of an accident under the circumstances of which drugs were legal or not due to uncertainty in health complications before we had the technology today. But it doesn't matter anyway. With all that are addicted to cigarettes, it would be dangerous to illegalize them. Illegalize drugs such as weed is a precaution to not let the same mistake allow addiction happen to so many people. And you just totally disregarded, once again, the fact that weed is life threatening just like any other drug.

I only do it once in a while, etc. How stupid...... Even if it happens to not kill you, there are still other side efffects are not very noticeale, yet they slowly pull you down. Maybe worse than just actually getting a disease and dieing......

I am pro-choice too that is why I said people can choose for themselves. But I will remain the same with my opinion on drugs and the people that do them.

I was talking more about alcohol. Alcohol is far more addictive than weed and causes worse side-effects, but that's still legal. *sigh*

Oh sorry lol..... but it's the same with alcohol as it is with cigarettes.... too many are addicted now to illegalize it.
