Default The Christmas Rat Race.

What are you all doing on Christmas?
That is, besides the usual activities most people take on this holiday.

I bloody loathe Christmas. I believe it is more of a holiday for children, or in any case, I enjoyed it much when I was little.
Now all the magic of shining lights and decorated households has left my barren soul, heh.
Instead, the season seems littered with chaos and despond. Meh, I could go on about what I think of Christmas and its bleak representation for me, but since I really am no different from anyone else and will celbrate it anyways...

So this year, well like every year, I will go and spend Christmas Eve with my family at my grandmother's place. Usually, my boyfriend comes with me, or he has for the past two years. But he has a family as well, and has decided to spend Christmas with them this year. So we shall be apart. But oh well, the day after, we shall have our own special Christmas!
And today, we have this big party at work, which every year is usually a rather impressive event, despite it being boring as hell. But I will have to go anyways.
Maybe I shall win one hundred dollars as I did last year.
Which brings me forth to my final point..I will spend Christmas with next to no money. Since we have two weeks of vacation from work, that means small paychecks, and most of them will be used to pay for bills and crap..damn it. I baught most of my gifts already, but it was rather slim pickings compared to last year..
Ah well..I hatte Christmas.

So what of everyone else? What are you going to do? Tell all..

Tis' relative, I am not forcing my opinion onto anyone.

It is not without its goods either; two weeks of vacation!
Two weeks of playing games, watching stupid late night TV while eating and dropping food between my breasts and NOT CARING.

I think that the holidays have their merits as far as society goes. People are generally nicer during the holidays, and charities are at their all-time highest for the year. I too have become a bit jaded towards Christmas, as it really primarily serves both children and retailers. Christmas has become the #1 marketting campaign nowadays, and it's kinda sickening. However, as you say Est, two weeks of doing absolutely NOTHING is always a nice bonus.

Indeed, but that is actually one of the things that bothers me about the holidays..a time of love and peace and all that. The time to show your love to your family and friends..but why on Christmas? Should we not practice this all the time? Are people only this way on Christmas because they feel they must, or because of true feelings? You tell me, beh.
The reason the magic is lost to me is because it feels as if everyone is acting.

I do not need Christmas to show my feelings to certain ppeople, just as I need not go to a bar to get pissed drunk.

I think it would be unrealistic to think that people would have the same high attitude they have during Christmas year round. While other cultures are certainly more in touch with family and friends than the typical American family, they do so at a pleasant medium, not a constant over-acted kindness.

As for your concerns that people feel they are obligated to be nice during the holidays and thus simply "acting", I would say this: "who really cares what the motives are?" The fact is that people ARE nicer - for whatever reason doesn't really matter.

I do agree, though, that people SHOULD continue the spirit of Christmas' love throughout the year. The reality is... that just isn't going to happen. People can only STAND to be nice for so long (for our culture at least). My suggestion: Enjoy the kindness, even if it's about as real as porn star Devon's balloon-like breasts.

I really love the air about christmas. Everyone is cheerful.
However..
I hate the thing itself. It's so fake and materialistic o_o;
I get all sorts of shit because I don't get an advent calendar. I mean, oh fucking wow - I don't need chocolate every day of the month to remind me what the date is. Sheesh.
This christmas, I'll be at home, getting shouted at just like every other day of the year but probably because there was the tiniest bit of wrapping paper on the carpet. Wow, joy.
Merry christmas.

Ps: It's the one day of the year where you encourage children to sit on a weird old man's lap and accept gifts, and let someone you don't know in your house and your child(ren)'s bedroom. Hmmm....

Yea, that is creepy...either that or that calendar thing..I have never heard of that. We have them on Halloween as children, but not on Christmas.
In any case, you still seem to enjoy Christmas. Good for you, and all those who like it.

I do realize the wish that one's behaviour on Christmas be the same all year round is not realisitc at all, but as stated already I still think it should be.
I always thought that if I could do it, then others could as well. Unless I am as fake as everyone else, which is probably the case. Christmas is a part of our subconscious! Eeh..

Well, I went to the party, and I won fifty dollars! Last year I won twice that, but I shall not complain. I won two years in a row, hee.
I suppose I must have looked a complete bozo dressed in a Goth gettup at a Chritsmas party, but who cares, I was not the only one, and take that all your Christmasy bastards! I might have drank a bit too much wine though, heh..tipsy tipsy..
