Maby I'm crazy, but Firesnake is right. This topic was brightly showed in Perumov's books. The main idea is the same: obay or not obay => you will die.

it's true: obey or not obey: you will die!

but extremists make it worse (doesn't matter which faith ... see the crusades)
They tell everyone to kill everyone who doesn't believe the same as them
while every holy book says: "thy shallt not kill".
