Alas, it is a bank holiday so the university does not serve food today either.

Yes, we are not cows or sheep, which have 4 stomachs, the Rumen, Reticulum, Omasum, and the Abomasum. They each have different yet similar funtions that help them digest plant matter more efficiently than say an omnivourous stomach. Boy! Now I'm hungry. Food for thought. (He he...)
I recomend visiting the library and researching edible herb and fungi, I actually found an interesting recipe for them puff-ball mushrooms that tasted Ok, although mushroom identifcation is rather risky. Like I said, read up a little first. Puff-ball mushrooms are commonly found on front lawns and in ball fields, so are meadow mushrooms.
More food for thought.
And when all other quests for food fail, go shoot a rabbit and enjoy. XD

I remember when I used to be broke and hungry I used to go into restaurants and soup shops and help myself to as many handfuls of the free crackers they offer for the soup. You can also go to places like family restaurants and cafeteria areas and get those individual peanut butter or jam servings... or honey for tea. They go good with crackers. XD
I had another friend who didn't like sweet stuff so he used to get the free packets of ketchup and mustard from fast-food joints and put that on the crackers. I thought it was disgusting, but he liked it... and it was free. lol

The Terminal with Tom Hanks (Or whoever the guy from Castaway and Big was, I always confuse his name with someone else). lots of good ideas. And some cafes have standes with free food (crackers, biscotti, sometimes cheap bread) right outside the door, but I assume they're for the customers drinking coffee at the outdoor tables and the leniency would depend on how much food you took and the employees' temperaments.

I got loads of baked beans and bread (baked beans keeps for ages and bread you can store in the freezer), I could loads of packets of crisps, loads of Pot noodles and other such noodley-cuppy goodness so I have enough food to last me through a nuclear winter. SO HAPPY. HAVE FOOD.

Studentness abounds, yay for beans on toast the student staple
Ooooh you should get food today!!!
I wish we could get free biscuits and stuff at restaurants like they do in other countries- British are stingy, in some places you even have to pay for ketchup and sugar
