Default Leaving games

. . .ever felt like its time to call it quits on the video games?. . .we all like them, for different reasons, and you dont necessarily have to ever stop playing them. . .they are a hobby and entertainment medium, after all. . .

[if you wish to skip the following trash and get to the point, go down till you see a bunch of "lol" signs]

. . .i suppose this depends on who you are, but there comes a time when you eventually have to quit some hobbies/habits. . .for example, i used to play tcgs (trading card games) when in my early high school years. . .i loved the deep strategy involved in some of them, and they were really fun. . .but i put them away cuz they were becoming too expensive and starting to take too much of my time. . .as for games, its almost the same story. . .after you own may be over a hundred titles and perhaps a half dozen different consoles, i think its logical and inevitable to ask your self: could i have put this time and money to better use? am i going to far?. . .a friend of mine once pointed out in high school that w/ the money i had spent in cards i could have bought a decent(?) car to drive to school (i probably spent over $2000 USD in tcg's since i was in junior high). . .looking at the games i currently own, i probably have spent over $1200. . .there are few, less than a handful, of those games that i did not enjoy. . .but great games will keep coming, and i cant play them all (i havnt finished over half of my games). . .now factor in the time spent in playing them. . .

. . .the root of my problem w/ games is not that they are expensive (buying a game once a month, if you have a steady income and balanced budget, shouldnt cause you to go bankrupt). . .nor is it that they take too long to finish (games are a hobby, and hobby's naturally take time, and its usually spare time). . .my problem with games is that i no longer have the time to play them. . .other things are starting to take high priority in my life, and games are starting to become, in a sense, a distraction. . .im a very lazy and slow acting guy, and i prefer to play games over begining work on a semester project. . .that is always the case and im sure im not the only one here to go through that process. . .however, now in college and likely later in life, i have to change that and focus completely on my education and other important tasks, depending on what demands more immediate attention (life wasnt meant to be fun. . .fun just alliviates the stress involved in it). . .and so, although i do not think im addicted to games, i must get rid of all major distractions (games being my major source of entertainment). . .i guess you can say its just the process of growing up. . .i mean, we have to learn how to file income taxes and pay bills, right?. . .

. . .my plan is to finish fallout3, wait for ff13 and god of war 3, then sell off all my trash (whether i have finished or started a game or not), the way i did with most of the cards i used to own (the rest have been collecting dust for sometime while i find some1 to give them to or finally decide to simply throw them away. . .i seriously should hav spent that money in something else). . .

. . .lolololololololololololololololololololololololol olololololololololololololololololol. . .

. . .so, the point of all that waste of time?. . .nothing, really. . .im a spammer, but not your regular type of spammer. . .i try to post only when i have something to say that would require typing alot. . .but then again im not sure that's what you'll call a spammer. . .

. . .well, good night 2 any1 out there. . .i've got a major paper to write. . .and as usual, i waited for the night b4 to do it (i was busy playing fallout 3). . .fun times. . .

I say no, not a waste of time. Video games have made many people who they are today, and introduced players to new friends at competitions, console waits, and gaming forums. I too have not been able to play console games as often recently (though I do play PC games way more often, and DS games less, now that I have a decent portable laptop computer), but I make sure to stop and go back to one of the games I used to find so fun whenever I'm feeling down or thinking I may as well sell off a few games or a console. Then I start to remember why I liked (most of) the games in the first place, and that I as I am now could never get rid of my games.
You don't know how much I appreciate this discussion. I was just starting to feel like games are pointless, and that's usually about when I break out Trace Memory, or an old PC CD game.

I have much the same problem Neo, I still enjoy video games, but I don't play them as much anymore... just no time. It is probably also connected with the type of games I play. Because I like RPGs mostly, which usually include many hours of game play. Whereas you can run around for half an hours with Mario and enjoy yourself, I am forced to commit to sitting down for a long time for an RPG.

However, there are enough good games out there to keep me playing them, even though exceptionally good games they seem to be becoming more rare these days. So I hope that I will be a video gamer for life. I mostly keep to a few series which I know I will enjoy, and rent or borrow games from friends from other series to get an idea of whether or not I will enjoy it enough to spend my money on.

I have begun to feel the same way. I used to love playing videogames all day long and realizing at midnight i should probably eat something. lol. But like you Midgar i am into RPGs but i have started to feel like even if the story is good the gameplay is to repetitive like most games, they all become a game in which you have to do the same things over and over again. It seems as I get older my attention span for games shorten and I get bored fast. I used to spend my weekends buying a new game and trying to beat it before Monday, and now i'll start a game then just stop playing.

I don't want to get rid of my games or quit playing, but with life being the way it is and reality just around the corner I don't know if i'll be able to enjoy them as much. I need time and the abilty to enjoy long hours of playing a game no longer how tedious they seemed; just like when i was a kid. Thats just what I need the abilty to feel like a kid again, but i can't with the pressure from everyone to grow up and they are convincing me to do so. Screw growing up it blows and it ruins peoples ability to have fun and enjoy themselves. I need a life, lol.
