Pity on the Ant
I was thinking the other day about how weird I am lol. This may seem random, but don't you ever feel bad for bugs? Alright, for instance, my house has some ant problems recently and we keep finding them. Whenever I find a bug in the house, I usually take the time to capture it and let it go outside rather than simply crushing it. When I crush it or flush it down the toilet or something, I always feel guilty or bad after. When I was younger I used to have fun by smooshing ant hills and all the ones that tried to escape. Now I feel bad...
And even society is fine with it. it's always ever so comical when somebody steps on a bug. People are fine with it, even my own family. But have you ever stopped to think what you're doing? Killing. Taking away an innocent life. And they can't help it, bugs and insects are oblivious to the fact that you don't want them in your house or something, they're just trying to survive. I know if you just let them free they could just come back into the house and such, but can you see why I have sympathy for them?
This is a totally random and wierd topic but what the hell.

Well, I understand what you mean, although I will never go out of my way to kill an insect..but if a mosquito lands on me and starts syphoning my blood it will die.
And I, like you, also take the time to capture unwanted intruders in my house to let them out.
Hell, I even do this at work.
Not to say I never killed any, but when I have done so and then see their little bodies all ruined, I also feel bad..so I do not think you are so weird.
But still, there are so many insects in the world..ome more, one less..

We should treat ants the same as people. And animals in the same case. We live on the same planet as them, might as well get along.
People are to fixed on their ideas that they dont care whether they killed something or not, and make up an excuse to rationalize their idea, like "That bug was in my house, it shouldnt have been, so I KILLED it."
Yes, although I, have to admit, have a slight fear of bugs, I do feel sympathy for them and try to help them survive.

I also don't go out my way to kill anything. People who step on bugs on purpose eigther have no respect for life or feel a compulsive need to take their aggressions out on something that isn't going to fight them back =/
Treating them the same as people would be a bridge too far however. The ant hill down the garden will not be getting a Christmas Card from me nor will I expect one from it =P

XD Ya wow I wasn't expecting positive feedback. More along the lines of "Dude ur a freak" is what I was expecting lol
The only time I know that I'll kill an insect and be willing to is when a mosquito lands on me, I'd much more rather be a West Nile free person thank you very much lol. That or I kill ticks on my dog. Even though those two annoy me most I still feel bad

Then again, if an insect was bigger then us, does one actually suspect it would think twice before attacking?
The Earth belonged to insects before anything else came along..it it will be theirs again when everything else dies.
But it does not mean that simply because they will all gnaw on our rotten meat and bleached bones that life should not be respected.
Then again, claiming this and eating animal meat makes me a hypocrite.
Ah well.
Hooray for dragonflies and veal, yo!

Well, that's the one thing humans have to wave around and justify our superiority. That, most of us (and it's becoming a dwindling few now) are able to suppress our animalistic natures. Most insects also only attack when hungry, I doubt you would see giant insects with magnifying glasses toasting a block of flats =p
The world did used to belong to them after all, billions of years ago the first creatures to leave the sea were supposedly arthropods NOT our descendants

Plus insects can't be huge like in the sci fi movie. If they were, they would be crushed in on themselvs do to their own weight lol

No, insects could never be much bigger then they are now, due to gravity.
Although before there were humans, insects did use to be a lot bigger.
Well anyways, I was just saying that to emphasize a point, one that HantsHammer put in quite well.
