FF VII Help Please!!!

I am currently still on disc one of FF VII, I have got to the Forgotton City (Mushroom shpaed place) and made my way to the shell at the top (an picked up the comet materia), I know the next step should be to go down the 'blue stairs' somewhere in the shell to the lower city, but I can't find them.

Any ideas where they are or what I am doing wrong?????

Explore the Left and right paths first. Sleep in a house in the right fork. It's pretty straightforward after that.

i would of said just wander around a little it will turn up but thats a lot more sensible do what she says

In Nibleheim, open the safe. Get the Odin materia and take the key from the safe.
When you get to the basement, open the door and talk to Vincent twice.
Go to the library, do the sephiroth scene. After you get hit in the groin by the materia, go to leave. Vincent will join your party when you get to the hallway where you can view the stairs.

where is the ancient city?

Head to the north as much as you can in the Bronco and low sea levels. You'll see a green area with a beach; Land here. The village there is Bone Village, The workman at the door will tell you about the Luna(r) Harp. Place some work men in the top level (It is near the shell at the lower level) and set off the explosive. If it doesn't work first time, try again.
Once you get it, head into the forest. Don't forget the Kjata Materia, the red dot appearing here and there.
One you get to the next bit, GET THE ITEM FROM THE CHEST. It is a Water Ring and can be VERY useful in the upcoming battle. Equip it to someone who has life materia, and they will be invunerable to the monster's attacks. After that it's pretty straight forward; Follow the path. Then follow my instructions to the original question of this topic.
