I agree, FFIX was easy. FFVIII is my favoutie out of em all (XII just about breaks even.) I love the GF system, the story is fab, the music is the best ever and of course the characters are lovable

who cares what ppl think of FFVIII? i thought it was one of the best! The characters and plot was still second to none to most generic RPGs on the market and the gunblade was the best weapon ever created. am i being subjective? of course i am! but i cant let ppl rag this game! character and character development are absolubtly brilliant as usual and the battle system may have let it down a little but after a game like FF VII there was a big gaming mass of complexes to live up too. also seed squall is something i have cosplayed as so if thats not dedication to this game i dont know what is.

Also the card game rocked! I also think some of the best music and cutscenes came our of that game... come on the dollot landing sequence and the X-ATM-093 (yes i remembered the name of the mechanical spider off by heart) chase was brilliant for it's time!

I thought the guardian forces' junction system was an intersting way of customizing each character to the way you wanted them to be. I know a lot of players have complained that it essentially made each player able to be exactly the same in battle if they are just junctioned identically. But FFVII's materia system could be interepreted the same way... and few have complained about that.

I believe the game has other strengths as well. It was the first to heavily introduce the 'mini-game' element with it's card playing side quest. And it was also the first FF that introduced the synthesis method of developing weapons and armor (which we further saw echos of in FFIX and FFXI).

Oh and of course, VIII had far superior FMV movies and in game graphics than it's predecessor. I would probably agree with the general concensus in this thread that FFVIII probably didn't find a strong place in many of the fan's hearts because it was over shadowed by the behemoth that came before it, FFVII. Oh well, it's still a kick ass game tho. :P

The Reason FFVIII didn't make the grade is: One, Those were hard footsteps to follow in, and Two- It wasn't even the same director, programmers, etc.
