Id have to agree. FF8 was the easiet out of the final fantasy series for sure, i actually think the pre PS titles were the hardest although id only played these after 7 and 8 and maybe the platform change was jus hard to get to grips with

but back to FF8, here are some aspects which made the game considerably easier than it could have been.
1) Draw. to be honest im not a fan of it, actually not a fan of the magic system in general. After the first few hours i hardly used magic for the rest of the game bar Life, Cure, Dispel etc...and obviously junctioning which ill get onto...but the fact you can make your characters so strong physically so quickly kinda makes the magic pointless in some respects...at one point i was jus using them to see what kinda visuals they all displayed
2) Junctioning system. Although people critisize this alot i actually think it was a good idea executed poorly, maily because magic was reasonably easy to get hold of, and if you thought ahead and quickly mastered the card game pretty early, youve got the game wrapped up due to your stats being so massively OTT. Which leads to my next prob...
3) Card Mod ability. Quetzacotl learns this ability and it can be learnt (with a little more scrapping than youd do usually) within the first 2 hours of the game

which if youve exploited this technique, youll know means its actually very hard not to complete the game.
4) limit breaks. FF7 got this spot on...i think FF9 it coulda been alot better IMO but the FF8 idea was jus plain bad IMO. It again made it easier. I found myself in fights jus leaving characters in critical and having life on standby so i could use limit breaks every turn by jus changin characters quickly until the arrow popped up, this made defeating diablos for example even as soon as you get the lamp fairly easy. saying that though the limit break visuals were impressive ...
5) Bosses. Not enough of a challenge...first time round FF7 had tricky bosses such as the materia keeper, the demon wall in the temple of the ancients, and the ending boss being a pain in the arse without omnislash or KOR, FF9 had some really hard bosses too as did the older titles and 10...however 8 jus had too many that were too eays to defeat...although this goes back to the junctioning debate...this really anoyed me though as it become a chore to fight these bosses that were meant to have you really avin a go and really hating them which is a shame cos it gets you more into the story...obviously theres omega weapon, thats a barrel of laughs trying to kill...
