Default Playing Through FFVII Again...

Well then, greetings and well met.

I have decided to play through Final Fantasy VII once more, in order to re-initiate myself for the coming of Crisis Core. I have been through it so many times though, but it is still as fun as I remember it to be...the graphics do not fail to impress, however they really are outdated, after ten years...still, the details and obscurity in the decor (Panties and empty condom wrappers in one room, omg.) still manage to entertain me.

This game had been given to me by my father on my birthday, but then so cruely taken from me not even two days later when my foster parents witnessed Cloud's sword...you cannot play that! It has SWORDS in it!!

Er, what?

In any case...as overrated as this may be, it is still done as such for a reason. XD I love all the translation mistakes and item collection.

Also, this time around, I have found a date mechanics faq...I am going to attempt and have Cloud date either Barret or Yuffie, as never have I seen this.

So yes, while I wait for Crisis Core, I shall go back ten years in the past...I am old, and biased, but what are going to do?

As well, er, general FFVII discussion? As if we had not had enough. XD

Ngh I'm so jealous!!!

I could probably play that game forever, it's almost a year since I played it for the first time, just over a year since I was first introduced to that world (watching Advent Children). It's become my firm favourite, only just beating FFX.

You could play this game a million times and still notice something new- some of Vincent's dialogue if you speak to him casually is so random and hilarious "Hojo, what a queer fellow..." I love how the dialogue completely changes with each different player. Those quirky little translation errors, I agree the game wouldn't be the same without them, or without the little lego character designs. I'm gonna miss that quirkiness in Crisis Core, as I did in DoC, but it still should be fun.

And on my last playthrough I actually got into the Honeybee Inn. Hilarious, absolutely bizzarre but hilarious!! I'll never look at Cloud the same again *cringes*

Ooooh and you must tell me where to find that FAQ, I would love to see Barret or Yuffie's date

Here you are, for the dating.

Ah yes...so many weird little things in this game which, while not relevant to much of anything, do help to flesh out the character personalities, and the game itself as a whole.

For example, when you go into the 7th Heaven for the first time, wait until Barret and company go down to their hideout. Then, instead of following them down there, exit the bar, and talk to the people outside.

One of them mentions how there used to be a television outside, but that Barret destroyed it when it was airing the president of Shinra...then he he says that Tifa had best watch out for her TV-or go back all the way to the train station to have someone call Cloud a weirdo. XD

These are not so extreme, but I completely love these details, which may be actually easy to miss...

Yes, i have went into the Honeybee Inn as well, saved and tried all possible outcomes...some of them are just WEIRD.

OMG!!! I cannot believe you posted this… I started a new game of FFVII last week and have been playing it all weekend. In fact I was working on a post of my own about this topic… should I still post it?

I saved up my money for months in order to buy an original PlayStation just so I could play this game. I definitely think it was worth it. And now it is doing the same thing to me again ten years later, for I must purchase a PlayStationPortable in order to play this next installment, Crisis Core.

Yes I agree Miss Lockheart, the Lego people still bother me, I wished they could of looked a little more like they did in the battle screen, but if that’s the worst I have to look at then I think it still holds up pretty well. And I continue to see new things every time I play this game anew, like Terminal mentioned. This time around I particularly enjoyed fighting the 3rd Class SOLDIERS in the Shinra infiltration part of the game. That’s the only time you’ll ever see that.

In FFVII, I’m happiest when I’m in the battles, so I’m pleased there are a lot of them in the beginning parts of the story, and in many different settings. I even enjoy leveling-up in this game, can’t say that for VIII or X. lol

But man do I ever hate these mini-games… like that damn Fort Condor side-quest… ugly as hell. And even the mini ones, like the lame squats competition in The Slums gym. Give me a break man. Or how about that incredibly weird CPR mini-game at Junon Harbour, YIKES, I was like wtf is this?

And the translation is absolutely horrid, at least the version I am playing is. I caught myself laughing at so many parts because I couldn’t believe what I was reading. It made no sense. (suspiciously, it seems to always be Barett XD)

You mentioned that you are attempting to get the Yuffie date, that is very difficult, good luck. I have never been able to get it. But I am attempting a different feat of my own this time around that I have never done before… I am going to track down Aeris’ fourth limit break, the Great Gospel while I still have Aeris in my party. In all previous play-throughs I have never usually gotten it until way after that *cough cough* part happens in the game. So that is one of my goals.

Yeah, cool thread T.

"This guy are sick"

Yay I got Great Gospel on one of my games, but I only got Aeris as far as Breath Of The Earth before the bit you mention

Hehehehe mini games. The squats one actually made me laugh it was just funny, and yeah I found Fort Condor annoying. I found Yuffie's sidequest in Wutai annoying too, though I enjoyed the pagoda challenge. If they remake this game, it would be nice to see a proper Vincent sidequest.....

Ah, the Great Gospel...not only do I obtain one long before Aerith cough coughs, but I actually always get two of them-just so that I may have one laying around in my inventory-just to say that I do. XD

And heh, MF you purchased a PlayStation for the exact same reason that I had wanted one...before FFVII, I wanted nothing to do with it. XD

I think you should.

Right, the minigames...I agree, some of them are rather tiresome and exasperating, and while Fort Condor is not that bad, it annoys me that I completely master and own the entire thing, and the only reward I get is some weapon for Nanaki that you can purchase two towns later.

Also finding Yuffie and getting your materia back is very annoying...for some reason I never remember where she hides, and spend hours looking for her...it frustrates me so much, then it leads me to remember what Cloud says in the tutorial...if you are stumped, turn off the game and cool your head, and your console. XD
One may actually skip that entire part of the game though; however, it is curicial, it would seem, to dating Yuffie.

Also, I am no good with time limits...I become a complete spaz. How many big materia have I lost in the past because I freaked out too much, argh. It never happens now, but I dislike them.

I like the Lego design though, I always thought it was cute...but Aerith that way kind of looks like her dress is a sleeping bag. Always thought it was odd. And the translation! Attack while its tail is up! I believe you may have forgotten a word there, Cloud. I thank you for the 146 points of damage I just took.

But aye indeed, translation is always entertaining.

Hmm there are some parts of it that make me panic too- the part where you have to use the kiss of life on that little girl who gives you the Shiva materia, I don't know if there is a time limit so I freak out.

Though I have to ask, do you get any special awards for the balloons on the snowboarding section? Not that I can do it very well anyway

About the Junon minigame with the girl; worry not, you cannot fail. Out of curiosity (My heart is oh so black. And I just saw that crazy video.) I had tried to let her die, but it will not happen. You are stuck in the minigame until you get it right.

Oooh the snowboard minigame, that is one I really love though, that and the motorcycle one. But no, I am not sure that anything specific happens depending on the amount of points you get for catching the balloons-all that changes is that you shall end up in a different area of the Great Glacier depending on which turns you had taken during the course.

In the Gold Saucer you may play it again, and the motorcycle game gives you gold depending on how good you do...but by the time the snowboard game was up, I had everything I needed from the Gold Saucer, and so did not put much effort into it. I did play it a lot for fun though, but nothing seems to really happen...or I do not remember.
Might anyone confirm this?

Also, one of the rumours says that you can have Tifa on the board instead of Cloud...

Another game I totally hated was that gun salute for Rufus at Junon, where you had to coordinate your marching to the rest of the Shinra grunts. That part was so annoying. And how about that part in the Shinra Headquarters when you had to coordinate pressing a button with the two other people in your party in order to unclock a door... hated it hated it hated it.

And heres a question for everybody... did anyone else get stuck on the elevator in the opening assault mission? I kept going up and down and up and down that damn elevator because I kept accidentally pressing the switch before I got far enough away from it, drove me CRAZY!!!

I have to admit tho that I too did rather enjoy the motorcycle and snowboarding mini-games. And when I need to collect Gold Saucer points I always do the Submarine challenge.

I mentioned the Great Gospel before... I always save at least two files. Does anybody else do this? I always save one main file which I play through right till the end, but I always save a second one right before the Temple of Ancients for reasons I'm sure everyone knows.

This time around I want to see how strong I can get Aeris in that second file. I want to see what kind of fighter I can get her to be at the higher levels... my goal is to get her to at least to level 50, if not even higher (levels 60-70 would be fun).

AAAAAAAAAAARGH the Junon parade! Blast it to hell I tell thee! You know, I have NEVER, not ONCE, ever managed to get that right. I cannot even get in line properly. I just get grenades...what do you get if you do good?

*Laughs at you, but in a friendly way, of course. *

What, you actually got stuck in THAT elevator? I read what you've said of it, but...wait, how? XD

Hmm...there was also that huge puzzle inside the Shinra Mansion in Niblehiem, the one for the code, to get Vincent. The hints were strewn about by Sephiroth, but I must admit that, I could never figure it out by myself.

Or wait...it has been too long, was this code required for a Summon? Aaack I do not recall...but I did not dislike that part, I just could not figure it out. XD

A long time ago a friend of mine had done what you describe wanting to do for Aerith. He got her to level 99-quite an obsession, really. Heh heh, but she still does not do so much damage if you get her that high, not even with spells. But for some reason anything that is healing related goes through the roof. Of course by then his characters were all so strong that he did not need any of it.

Level 99 in Junon, as this was the highest place for experience points he could find before she caughed. I would NEVER have the patience to do this. But it was quite a remarkable feat indeed. I was, to say the least, flabbergasted.
