Remakes

why does square keep making remakes of the old classics (ff 1-6) but not of the ps1 titles? ok, so there were the greatest hits edition, but besides that nothing else. . . .ff4 came out for the gba after being released w/ chrono cross for the ps1, ff6 has had about 2 remakes lately, for the gba and ds systems, ff5 appeared in the gba, ff3 in the ds, 1 & 2 apperead both on the gba as a single game and recently on the psp seperatly. . .there have been rumors of the ff7 remake, it still isnt clear what way its going to go. . .i personally havent heard anything decisive lately, but something tells there will never be a remake. . . .but what of ff8 & 9?. . .why cant they do them again?. . .im sure the psp would be a great system to port them to. . .unless square did them for wii or as a download for ps3. . .360 out of the question, of course. . .is just i feel like square is purposely avoiding a remakes for those 3 games. . .

as a final note, i will admit that i have personally been hoping for a remake for the ps1 games. . .specially 7. . .its impossible to find an affordable, new copy. . .and honestly, a slight graphical update is always welcomed (although im quite happy with ff1 for psp, as over simplistic as it is). . .any one else agree w/ me?. . .disagree w/ redoing them cuz you feel any slight change would be ruining a classic?. . .feel like killing me?. . .feel free to share your thoughts. . .or not. . .

This is a subject I feel really strongly about. I agree, that now the PS1 is pretty much obsolete (as much as I still get a lot of joy out of it), they should turn their attention to some of those great games there. Plus it is becoming increasingly difficult to get those titles and now we have greater accessibility to the Legacy Era we should get some PS1 titles with the same treatment, surely?

But to be honest graphics-wise, there wouldn't be an awful lot about VIII or IX that they could improve on. They were beautiful games. I think the most we could hope for with those ones is a straightforward port onto a handheld like the DS or PSP, unless they leave it so long that those graphics do go out of date.

*sigh* I've been following the PS3 remake rumours for FFVII since the beginning, when that Tech Demo was released. Whatever SE's intentions were with that demo, innocent or not, the fever it's caused still has a lot of momentum 3 years afterwards. In fact now I hear rumours that Sony are stepping in and demanding that SE do this remake, in the interests of the killing they would make financially. We all know that if a PS3 remake happened then the response would be phenomenal. But SE are currently tied up in a lot of projects, with KH3 and FFXIII on their way. FFXIII is the one that's taking the most resources, and plenty of people who work for SE have admitted that an FFVII remake can't happen whilst ever the FXIII project is still going on

My opinion is that SE will eventually give in to the pressure. Maybe not in the near future, unless the rumours that they have already been working on it in secret are to be believed. But it probably will happen, it's just too good an opportunity for SE to make their pockets bulge with profit. I don't think they would view a PS3 remake of VIII or IX this way, VII really is the one people want (believe me, I've seen the thousands of online petitions).

I'm looking forward to Crisis Core for now to satiate my FFVII appetite (no Vincent sob!). Getting FFI will be fun too, I'm gonna make the most of the Legacy Era remakes if I can. But yeah I agree with you completely, yay!!!

yeah, i've seen those petitions as well. . .but there is nothing to do other than wait and see. . .and i still think a remake of ff8 & 9 would be awesome. . .just a straight port to any of the current systems would do. . .your right, the graphics really arent bad on those. . .

oh well. . .keep on dreaming, i guess. . .

well guys when you think about it, whats next? theyve done six, and the ps3 needs some GOOD games to start sellin. i bet after a project or two wrap up, we'll finally hear what we have all been waiting for

and ill have a reason to buy the ps3 lol

I agree i believe a remake of FF7 is long over due and would greatly increase the popularity of the pS3.

Hmmmm........I've never actually played FF7...........(>W<)
So I hope that would come out as a remake, for the original is going to be really hard to find.................
I also wouldn't mind a remake of FFVIII, Rinoa and Squall were just so friggin' awesome, and Zell was hott................>.>
