FFNet.org Changes - RSVP

Howdy folks,

I am here today to discuss some possible changes with all of you. These changes would greatly change the way the forums are structured. The current architecture is a bit messy, and a bit convoluted for the small number of members we currently occupy. Thus, I would like to vastly trim down the number of forums and subforums we currently have.

Here are some proposed changes:

* Let's not have tons of "Forums" such as "Final Fantasy Net" "The Games" "World Events" etc. Let's get one cohesive forum structure that's not broken up.

* Question: Can we get rid of the Kingdom Hearts 3 area of our forums? We already have a full dedicated forum for Kingdom Hearts 3 (kingdomhearts3.org), why do we need that replicated? If you can come up with something intelligent to defend this, I'll find a way to work it in to the new structure.

* There is a LOT (and I mean a lot) of administrative cleanup to do on my part. There are like seven godzillion usergroups and such from where we inproperly added usergroups to give people user titles and so on. I'll be cleaning that up, and I would expect some errors to occur along the way (like a lost usertitle or two).

I would like to do the structure something like the following (not a final version):

-General Forum
-> General Chat
-> Web Families
-> Personal Forum
-> Forum Games
-> Political Debate / World News
-> Art & Entertainment
-> RPG
-> Introductions

-Forum Issues
-> Site Suggestions
-> Staff Openings

-Final Fantasy (General FF chat)
-> The Classics (FF1-FF6)
-> The PS1 Era (FF7-FF9)
-> The Current Era (FFX-FF13)
-> Other Topics (FF Universe Games, Music, Movies)

-Other Games



If you want to see how a layout like this looks in practice, go check out kingdomhearts3.org. It's a bit cleaner, and the purpose is that you don't have to click too far to get where you need to go. I tend to dislike doing sub-subforums, but I can do them where necessary. Please give some feedback on the proposed changes. Other general suggestions are also welcomed at this time.

I say get rid of it...I seem to notice that many of the posters in that section do not post elsewhere in the forums for the most, and if there is already a place for this, then as you ask-why should we require a duplicate?

As well, I like the new forum layout which you have planned, however there is one thing I would indeed like to suggest. Do we really need individual sections for Final Fantasy films, spin offs and music? I mean, there are not that many Final Fantasy films for example, and in the sections already present here, nobody uses them. Could there simply not be one section for Final Fantasy related subjects that include everything aside the games, instead of making individual sections for each? but then a section for Final Fantasy game spin-offs would have to be added somewhere...anyways, I just do not think that such elaboration on the subject of Final fantasy related matters should be included, when it would work just as fine in a general section, or some such thing.

Well, I really like the new plan, and agree that the site needs trimming-I am all for it. Now get to it sometime soon, or no more rape for you.

Oh and lest I forget, where is the introduction section?

Aye, and I also realize that I have not been so good at keeping the bots away lately, but I still do peg them off every time I see one, and I do visit every day.

Unless anybody can defend the KH3 forums up there, they will be.... eliminated. *evil laugh*

I have condensed the FF Games, Movies, and Music into one category. I was debating whether Tactics should get its own forum. Should it?

Now, I will reiterate this again because I don't want people to see the new layout and say, "OMG", if you want to see this in action go to kingdomhearts3.org. The forums that I have listed will NOT all be out on the front page. You will have to actually click in order to get to a subforum you want to talk in. If this is frustrating to you (since I know you're used to this way) please say so (or forever hold your peace).

I think termie meant that it is a better idea to fuse the FF music subforum with the Music sub forum the FF movies with the regular movies etc etc

I try to keep the "General" stuff separate from the "Final Fantasy" specific stuff. If you all think we can forego the FF Music/Movies stuff altogether, we can do that.

We do always end up talking about the FF music within the specific game thread anyway. Both ideas are good

And I don't think many people would be sorry to see the KH3 gone.

Aye i aggree on removing The KH forum its not exactly an active area and this is supposed to be a FF forum really. Plus with a great KH3.org forum we don't need it.

I like the structure, its much simpler and just keeps the places alot tidyer.

Well, either you might stick it into the PS1 era, however, seeing as there is another Final Fantasy Tactics game, and most likely more to come (Not to mention things like Revenant Wings.) I do believe that it would fit fine into the FF universe games section.

Eh, no, I meant exactly what has last been foreseen in Kain's update.

Oh, and another question, although I'll not ask for yet another subforum, will we able to debate and discuss other subjects, like philosophy for example, in the Political and World Events section?

Yes. I'm trying to come up with a more all-encompassing name for that section. In KH3.org we have a Debate section, but I'll think about it some more.
