Being a mod or admin (not that i would know from experience) is to help run and control the forum, not to feed your appetite for power.

What Snaggle is (or, well, was) trying to prevent is sort of a "public police". We don't want our members arguing amongst themselves to stop certain behaviors. Let us moderators be the "bad guys" so that the members can all run, jump, swim, and play in peace. It's not really a show of power (although Snaggle's response could have been less laced with sarcasm), but more of a peace-keeping strategy. When other members start acting like moderators, it makes the member that they talked to kind of angry. That's what we want to prevent.
